  1. One other thing. There are interior lights, seat belt lts and cargo lights that route thru those connectors down there also. I also pulled the Fog Lt Sw and wires and Cargo Lt Sw and wires from the old harness. I removed the Heated Window stuff and Wiper/Washer stuff and replaced them w/the Comanche stuff. Something to think about. You mentioned that your using the 95 Column. I have a 95 Xj and have been looking at it when I have questions about how things route or where they go and it looked like the column mnts were diferent. But then every thing looks a little diferent when your upside down :rotf: Let us no if it works.
  2. Thats the 95. I'm doing the same thing for my sons 87. the connectors on the 87 are different. I spent about 4 evenings modifing the cherokee harness. The 87 was a flat 8 weather pack and a small square one I don't remember very well. I could look, the kick panel is still off. The older diagrams arn't as good but hear is the info: Look for a DB Stop Lts: WT Tail Lts; Tan Fuel Gauge; Pump is OR/BK on one side of connector and PNK w/tracer (no color given); Gray w/tr is L T/S; BR is R T/S and Rev Lts are BR w/tr. I checked on that fuel gauge issue too. It looks like the older trucks use a 0 mt 88 full sender and the HOs use 5 mt 105 full from 91-94. No info was given for 95/96. I don't know why it would run backwards but we'll find out right. Something to snag when you come across at the yard. You need to route the park brake wire to the PBP and like mentioned re route the WT/Tn wire from the connector to the plug under the column for the multfunction sw. There is no wires for the brake lits on an MJ they run thru the TS wires.
  3. Maybe this will help. you probably already know some of this but hear goes. it should be a black 16 pin connector. Pin 1 DG/TN is fuel pump; pin 2 TN/DG is R T/S; pin 3 is 2 wires DB/RD Tail Lts; pin 4 DB is Fuel Gauge; pin 5 BR/LG is Rev Lts and pin 14 WT/TN is Stop lts.
  4. I don't see that the instrument panel lights would come on as they ground thru the black wire. Hey let us know how it works for you. I only know of one Comanche with the cargo light and it also has the courtesy lights too, so I think it was a light package.
  5. I would think that what ever lights come on with the headlight switch CCW would also come on with the relay if you tap into that blk/wt wire. It does go thru the l&r courtesy lamps befor going to ground thru the door sw.
  6. OK I double checked. The diagrams for for an 89 MJ 2WD show the cargo light to be power from the switch to be pink/black. One wire, it grounds thru the light to the cab. It is in the same harness section that runs from the connector behind the left kick panel along the door jam and up the b post to the left dome light. The dome lights get power from the 10A dome fuse( also powers cargo light) pink wire. blk/wt grounds thru door sw. Blk direct ground. It seems to me you would run into dificulty because the dome gets a ground from two different places. Power is present at the dome all the time but hte gargo power is on only with the switch on. I would just play around with it until It worked the way I wanted(or close enough) Hope this helps.
  7. The dome lights have three wires; Pink=power from fuse, Yellow= ground thru door switch and black= direct ground to turn the light on at the light regardless of door position. The cargo light power is orange and black ground. You might be able to find it stowed by the drivers side dome light under the trim panel. I do not know if the color codes are good for all years and I know the door switch wiring changed. My 87 is black and white. Also the head light switch powers the dome light but thats under the dash befor the body connector at the lower left kick panel.
  8. I have also done the MJ bench brackets on the XJ seat swap in an 87 MJ. I used the curved tracks and found them to sit just a little higher than the MJ buckets. I drilled the rivet holes out so I could use grade 8 bolts hoping the head would hold in the track. It didn't but I wedged a screwdriver in between the track and head an was able to tighten them up. Just make sure the bolts are short enough to clear the slide. Then I tack welded the other end of the bracket to the track.I replaced the bench in my 91 MJ Pioneer with buckets from another MJ (got lucky the first time) Havent drove the 87 yet to find out wich setup I prefere. As far as seats go I from the ones I"ve worked on they have been the same four bolt pattern that holds them to the tracks up untill the 95 seats wich mount to the floor differently.
  9. I have seen factory radios with a bracket that screws into the sides of the radio and supports it from a tab on the inside structure of the dash. You might be able to adapt it to your radio. Most of the aftermarket radio installs I've seen are as you described. Not the best, but easy to do.
  10. Perty much what I did. Cut the back of the bed at the body line and fabed a wrap around type bumper. Works good, except I have caught the back top on a rock over hang.
  11. Hey are you talking about a short bed? I have a long bed bobed 14 1/2" and it definitly helps w/departure angles. Hardly drags. It does look similar to the pic. I agree that if its short bed and your not dragging the bumper then why do the work. Its alot of work. Maybe just use ofset spring perches and move tha axle back an inch, that should help the deapartue angle.
