T-Case piled up
highlandjeeper replied to highlandjeeper's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yep...that configuration allows it to roll and keeps the oil pump working in the t-case. Sounds like whom ever told you how to flat tow did you wrong and deserves a... :thwak: He said that was what the manual from his TJ instructed. I originally towed with both DS's removed and was told that I didn't have to remove the front one. :dunno: Anyways, the repair should cost me under $100 and a little time as I got another t-case for $50. I disassembled it tonight and everything looks tip-top inside. Now all I have to do is remove the bad one and disassemble it for the input gear (if it isn't damaged) and install it in the new one. Piece of cake. As for the Tera 2 Low kit, it is a few weeks away, so I will not be putting one in :( -
T-Case piled up
highlandjeeper replied to highlandjeeper's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Mine does not have CAD. I am unsure what the PO swapped the front axle out of when he did most of the convert to 4WD. As for the input, I will disassemble the donor t-case tomorrow and hopefully this weekend I can remove the bad one and see if the input will directly swap. Once the truck is back up and running I will send the old one to the morgue for autopsy and post some pics. -

After removing the rear driveshaft you did plug or cap the back of the t-case, yes? I had a spare yoke that I put in place. -
T-Case piled up
highlandjeeper replied to highlandjeeper's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have been told that the t-case when shifted into neutral locks the front and rear outputs although the input is in neutral. I have also been told that because there is no detent for neutral, it is a bad idea to do that. Regardless, I plan not to flat tow any more. Just need a trailer. The more important reason for this thread is for swapping info for the t-case, although some good towing info was also needed. Is it the t-case that is clocked different, or is it the tranny flange that is different between XJs and YJs? -
Drove 1.5 hrs to go wheelin yesterday with some members of our club only to discover that my t-case is piled up when shifted into 4wd :grrrr: . Last time I wheeled it everything was fine. Perhaps when flat-towing it something happened. I removed the rear drive shaft and put the tcase in 2wd and the tranny in neutral. Anyways, my question is this: Will the t-case or just the internal parts from a 1989 231 that was mated to a Peugot tranny in a YJ swap with my 1991 MJ 231? I think I read somewhere that the clocking is different but can't recall for sure. As for the input, I should be able to swap mine. I haven't disasembled either case yet to compare. I think I may order a Tera 2 Low kit as it is going in for surgery anyways.

That is exactly the way I did mine as well, although mine is temporary until I get some TJ flares and remove more metal.

Started My New Front Bumper Today

I said I would post pics of the truck next time , so here they are: I am not 100% satisfied with it. There are a few things I would do different on the next one. The original flares are temporary until I get some TJ flares. -

Here it is!! I may add a hoop around the winch in the future. Paint is drying as we speak. Tomorrow I get to remove the old one, cut the bottom of the fenders off, and install the new one. After that it's time to build a mounting bracket for the 8274. The next pictures I post will be of the truck :D . I will also post pics of the mounts I built to bolt the bumper to. -

Tonight's pics: I did however have a problem with my engineering dept as my drawings were wrong on two of the pieces and I had to rebuild them costing me a couple of hours. Some words were exchanged, but fortunately it didn't get physical. I told myself that I needed to be more careful because my time was valuable and I replied saying that if I didn't rush myself things like this wouldn't happen. I then shook my hand and I went my separate ways. Minus the minor setback and design time, I am into this thing for about 6.5 hrs so far.Shouldn't take too much longer now. Maybe Saturday I will have it installed with the winch mounted. -

I hope to one day be set up with my own shop to do just that, and yes I am doing it at work. We have some pretty good equipment (ie. shear capable of 1/2" plate, 250 ton press brake, 3 axis cnc mill, manual mill and lathe, etc, and by X-mas hope to have a waterjet cnc table :D ) -

Clocking Alternator
highlandjeeper replied to highlandjeeper's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It involved disassembling the alternator and clocking one half of the case. I can't remember all of the details, but it looked like a good thing to do. The person who made the post stated that he hadn't had any trouble with alternator failure since he did it. I will keep searching and will link it to the site if I find it. -
I am not sure if I saw the tread on this site. I am looking for info on clocking the alternator so that mud and water drains out. Tried a search with no luck. Anyone know this?

I installed an aux fan as the harness was already there. I also put the relay and fuse in the power dist center. I am under the assumtion that the fan is controlled by the computer. Does the fan only work with the A/C on as I have only seen these fans in XJs/MJs with A/C? :dunno: Mine does not have A/C.

I run GE Nighthawks in all my vehicles. I have been in vehicles that had Silverstars and thought the light was kind of blue. I am very happy with Nighthawk as they are bright white and the dipursion is very smooth. They are also cheaper than Silverstars. -
I myself just went through all of this trying to lift my MJ for as little $ as possible. Ended up with RE coils, RE adjustable uppers and lowers with superflex joints, and Gen 2 RE swaybar discos. Ended up spending +/- $1000 more than I wanted and don't regret it at all. The amount of time it took to get where I am now and all the extra fuel I burned while driving my GMC 1/2 ton 4x4 in the mean time, it wouldn't have cost the extra grand to bite the bullet at the start. Besides, it's just money :brows:

Project: Bigger than I planned MJ

South of Calgary (Longview). You probably saw the first pic on CJA site where it was listed for sale. -
It still doesn't make sense that he didn't have enough traction to extract me before the pulley, so why should he after. It still takes the same amount of force to pull me out.

So we learned something last weekend about winching that was pretty amazing, yet I still don't understand how it worked. Here is the story: I was buried in a mud hole and had to be winched out. One of the CJ's that I was wheeling with hooked on to me with his Warn and tried to pull me out. All that was happening was that he got pulled toward me. One of ther other guys that was with us said that tow truck drivers use a snatch-block when this happens which fools the winch into thinking the winch vehecle is twice as heavy as the stuck one. We had our doubts but thought we would give it a shot. To our disbelief it worked. I still don't understand how it worked. So if you ever have this problem, give it a shot.

A guy calls a company and orders their 5-day, 10 lb. weight loss program. The next day, there's a knock on the door and there stands before him a voluptuous, athletic, 19 year old babe dressed in nothing but a pair of Nike running shoes and a sign around her neck. She introduces herself as a representative of the weight loss company. The sign reads, 'If you can catch me, you can have me.' Without a second thought, he takes off after her. A few miles later huffing and puffing, he finally gives up. The same girl shows up for the next four days and the same thing happens. On the fifth day, he weighs himself and is delighted to find he has lost 10 lbs. as promised. He calls the company and orders their 5-day/20 pound program. The next day there's a knock at the door and there stands the most stunning, beautiful, sexy woman he has ever seen in his life. She is wearing nothing but Reebok running shoes and a sign around her neck that reads, 'If you catch me you can have me'. Well, he's out the door after her like a shot. This girl is in excellent shape and he does his best, but no such luck. So for the next four days, the same routine happens with him gradually getting in better and better shape. Much to his delight on the fifth day when he weighs himself, he discovers that he has lost another 20 lbs. as promised. He decides to go for broke and calls the company to order the 7-day/50 pound program 'Are you sure?' asks the representative on the phone. 'This is our most rigorous program.' 'Absolutely,' he replies, 'I haven't felt this good in years.' The next day there's a knock at the door; and when he opens it he finds a huge muscular guy standing there wearing nothing but pink running shoes and a sign around his neck that reads, 'If I catch you, your @$$ is mine.' He lost 63 pounds that week
