  1. I don't know if I have time to tear into the 8.8 before next weekend. Maybe I will leave the rear until last and base which one goes in then.
  2. Started the SOA swap this evening. Coils should be in Saturday. I have to replumb the rear brakes as well as they were brittle and broke. My predicament is whether to swap in the 8.8 at this point. It needs lines plumbed as well, but I don't know the condition of it and don't have time to get into it before next weekend. I wasn't going to put it in yet as I know the condition of the Turdyfive. I know I have to lengthen the rear brake line. Do I have to lengthen the fronts as well or are they fine?
  3. Should know after the weekend. Started on the SOA tonite. I will post in projects of the progress.
  4. We checked everything again and found nothing wrong. After inspecting the tires, we have concluded that one or more has a broken belt. They are the cheap Goodyear Wranglers found at such places as Walmart for +/-$50. I am going ahead with the lift and new tires and will see if all is well.
  5. My 91 has a leak above the windshield. The roof sheet metal is rusted away along the pinch weld. I am trying to get it sealed up for now. Today I cut a new roof skin from a good cab in the wreckers so that someday I can mabe change it out.
  6. So I have been doing some reading on some other threads, and I am not sure if I want to go thru with SOA with 4" front. I do have some 2" spacers I could add to the front which may level it out, but I don't want to go that high either cuz I am only running 32s. :???: Looks like I may have to order some leafs for the rear to get what I want, just not crazy about spending more money.
  7. My MJ is still stock height with 235/75r15s. I have also been fighting a severe death wobble problem. We put in upper and lower ball joints in the PS as they were shot. DS ball joints are good. I also changed the steering gear as it had some play as well. After replacing what we could find to be the only worn parts, DW occurs much more frequently and at lower speeds. We couldn't see any play in the control arms or the track bar. I will have to inspect these much closer as well as check alignment. I need all of this fixed before I put the lift and bigger tires on. I am still confused as to why it got worse with replacing worn parts. I guess I should check all of the bolts from when the PO swapped in the front diff.
  8. So I ordered a pair of Superlift 4" coils for the front, RE adjustable track bar and shocks for my MJ. I am doing a SOA in the rear using 2wd leafs. Tires are 32 x 11.5 R15. Am I going to have issues with control arms and pitman arm at this height that need to be addressed as well? What other advise can you guys give me? I am used to Jeeps with leafs.
  9. Thanks. That should be a big help.
  10. Is there a thread on this? I tried a search but came up with nothing. I have an 89 MJ and picked up some good leather buckets from an XJ. I put then on manual tracks from an 89? XJ and when I went to install then the studs didn't line up. Do I need MJ mounts only? Did they change bolt pattern from year to year?
  11. So I have already changed my plans. As it is cheaper to do SOA than to lift only 3", and SOA will look odd with 31s, I am going SOA with 32x11.5 Cooper STTs. Starting to not look so much like a DD :dunno:
  12. Looks can be decieving :headpop: . I took it in for a windshield 'cause the one in it was trashed and leaking. Turns out the pinch weld at the top was rusted away and the glass shop didn't try to seal it. Needless to say there seemed to be as much rain in the truck inside as out. There have also been a few other suprises such as quite a few missing bolts from the tranny swap to 4wd, an ugly floorpan patch job, etc. I am more upset with myself for not looking closer before buying, but am still content with the purchase. MJ's are getting hard to find in decent shape. It's just not as good a deal as initially thought. On a positive note, the body looks OK, but is in perfect condition to wheel and have fun without worries of scratches or small dings I will post some pics as progress continues.
  13. My name is Scott. I am from south of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I have wanted a Comanche for a while now, and a short time ago I picked up a new DD. 1991 Jeep Comanche 2wd converted to 4wd 4.0 HO AX15/231 D30/D35 with 3.55 Plans are for 3.5" lift and 31's, custom winch bumper and winch, possibly Ford 8.8 for rear, and other odds and ends. Gas mileage is great at 24MPG without trying, and it goes like "Jack" the bear. Imagine what it could do with a Stroker Hopefully mods will start when we are back from our honeymoon and should be ready for August. I also have a project YJ that will be the main toy, although I plan to wheel this one as well.
