  1. Stunning! What a wild place to explore
  2. Appreciate that Hornbrod, and a p/n too! I give that a try.
  3. I know what it looks like, I know how it works and I know what it does but I don't know what it's called in Canadian speak! I went to Lordco and the guy behind the counter couldn't help. I even drew him a sketch! Can any one in tech land help me? On my 2.8 V6 - There is a little air powered widget on the front of the engine by the carburetter that opens the throttle and accelerates the engine a little when you turn the steering wheel so the power steering doesn't stall the motor if your idling, what's it called? I call things like this an "Actuator" but that got me nowhere. I need to buy a new one as mine is seized and can only get it if the bloke in Lordco knows what I'm talking about! Thanks guys
  4. It's been a long day. What he said. OK, I guess your a few hours ahead of us here. I'll assume for now it makes the brakes more powerful.
  5. Are you speaking martian Pete? I didn't quite get that. Maybe if you said it more sloooowwwwly micro IQ over here might unerstand what your on about! Drake rooster upset didja say? What's one of them then? :huh???:
  6. Another 2 cents from up north FWIW. As you can see from my avatar  I also carry a a fair sized (1045lb) camper. The back end used to sag so badly (see pic) that over larger pot holes it hit the stops with a bang  Solved by the addition of some 'Airlift' air springs. http://www.airliftcompany.com/ride_control.html Now it rides great and stays level (no pics). I'm not sure how long my rear axle (AMC 20) will last with all that weight but it seems OK so far, touch wood! I've filled it with fully synthetic oil and it gets warm but not hot on longer runs to the hills. Edit: No lift kit installed on my Jeep BTW.
  7. Is it possible to get the video to show up on the post? Like embedding it?
  8. I had a random meeting with a decent fellow last night whilst in Vancouver collecting a sofa from a friends place. During our conversation about something totally unrelated he mentioned had two comanches! I didn't get a chance to talk more being that I was in furniture removal mode but I was wondering if that fellow was anyone from this forum? If so - Hello chap, good to make your aquaintance, show us a pic of your manche then
  9. I'm no technical expert but my '86 with peugot gearbox went in for a clutch kit and bearings recently. The garage also had the pressure plate(?) skimmed.
  10. Thanks for the replies guys, learning all the time  Were Comanches sold in Norway Joop?!! We didn't get anything nearly as interesting in the UK, just the Cherokee My local mechanic who's fixing the tranny bearings told me it is a peugot box :dunno: He said he expected it to be a Toyota gearbox and it seemed unusual that it was a Peugot. That sound right? Is there anything good, bad or indifferent about the Aisin AX-5 or BA 10/5? It's a five speed if that's any help in working out what type of gearbox it is? EDIT: Just noticed! both those codes have a '5' suffix, guess that means 5 speed so that don't help do it! :clapping: And yes i'll get a pic of it's belly once it's back from the shop
  11. I knew it was simple. Thanks JT  As you can see << maybe i'll need to uprade mine sometime
  12. Hi all, newby from the UK here again :wavey: I thought i'd say hello and put this in the pub cos it's such a simple question it doesn't deserve a spot in the tech section. I grew up on a diet of European cars and don't know nuffink about North American ones yet and since we moved left of the Atlantic and I bought my lovely Comanche (1986 2.8L V6 Manual money pit! :D ) I keep hearing all these references to running gear that I don't understand. Really simple stuff too! Please can someone describe in idiots langauage what all this Dana stuff is about? Why is a 44 better than a 22(?). Is it to do with gearing or load rating or what? :dunno: Thanks in advance :wrench: P.S for those that saw my first newby post a while back, I've got the air leak fixed, the floors welded up and it's in the shop at the moment having it's Peugeot tranny bearings repaired. And now I'm broke :D
  13. Great stuff, thanks for the replies guys. That's given me something to chew on. I do like your motion offroad version. Nice and simple with all the right structural elements. Yes "gearbox" = "transmission" or "tranny" as some say which always makes us chuckle as it means something completely different back home! :D Best keep one ear listening out for the rattle getting any worse then. It's been making the same noise for a while now so I'm gonna think positive!
  14. A-ha! I think a winch bumper is what I'm looking for then. Sorry, the language is new too! I was mistakenly think that fender is the same as bumper! :dunce: :D Thanks for the info Eagle, I'll go and have a search for one of those
  15. Hi all, I'm a newby to jeeps in general and to North America and loving both. I posted a couple of pics over here  http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15&start=300 Couple of Q's for you........ Is it normal to have a minor gearbox rattle on these? I have an '86 V6 manual 5 speed. My local mechanic's opinion is that it's the input shaft bearing but I read in Jeep magazine an advert mentioning rattly gearboxes. I'm hoping it's normal as it's not an agressive or loud rattle and only appears when the motor is fully warmed. And... what do you guys use and recommend as a good replacement front fender? I'm not planning on rock crawling, just gentle off road and forest trails. Something light that I can use for a tow out when I inevitably get stuck in the mud and maybe to mount a light duty winch on. The original has no where to even attach a tow rope except the running gear! Thanks, L :wrench:
  16. Hello all, I'm a newby here .... to ComancheClub and to British Columbia (from UK originally). Here's some pics of our 230k km '86 2.8L V6 5 speed manual with 1000lb camper before I fitted the airsprings.....and fixed the intake airleak.....and replaced the front UJ's. Just need to weld up the rust holes in the floor and keep driving it. It's only our daily workhorse but I love it. Couple of Q's for you guys in the know..... Is it normal to have a minor gearbox rattle on these? And can anyone recommend a good replacement front fender? Something light that I can use for a tow and maybe mount a light duty winch on. The original has no where attach a tow rope! Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found
