hi gang, just wondered if I could tow an old tractor home with my 'Manche--its a '91 6-banger 4wd, lwb, ax-15--its got a heavy duty home made steel bumber with hitch receiver on it, and heavy duty springs. the tractor weighs about 4000lbs. don't know the trailor weight but its tandem axle. thanks--brian :Canadaflag:  :USAflag:

I like cats!!...well done! My Bordie Collie just had 2 puppies today. oh, and looking at the cougar picture reminds me that 3 days ago a cougar was spotted about a mile from my house. It`s odd because they aren`t supposed to be ANYWHERE around this area. The local authorities are warning people to not let kids or pets outside unattended. Maybe I`ll just let the cats out. :D

New Exhaust System - Price, Source
Imperial21 replied to summerinmaine's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just changed all my exhaust 2 days ago--a chuck of platinum broke loose and plugged the cat. I went with a 2.5" universal cat( with adapters of course) to a 2.5" "Cherry Bomb turbo" muffler and into a short 2.5" tailpipe with a turn down--It sounds MEAN and its got a lot more nads now! -
I'll try to explain this the best I can: I noticed a lot of slop in the clutch pedal and my trans is NOT shifting smoothly--got looking at the slop and discovered a big gob of weld on the pedal arm up near the shaft it rides on--looks like someone tried to weld it to the arm beside it that the clutch master rod attaches to. The weld is broken now and basically the only thing pushing that rod in is that gob of weld pushing on the arm when I push the clutch pedal. the weld is twisted back a bit so I don't think the clutch master rod is getting pushed in far enough. SO--Are the pedal arm and actuator arm supposed to be attched or or keyed together on that shaft or is it broke and thats why it has a gob of weld on it? I'll try to get a pic of it. thanks. :Canadaflag:  :USAflag:

That would be cool! I would personally go with the a518 trans( its a small block 727 with OD)-(the a500 is a 904 or 999 with OD-found on V6 trucks)--they are found in vans or P/U's with the V8--you want one out of a '91-it was the only year that they were non-lock-up--you may have to modify the floor to account for the OD unit-not sure. I'm workin on a 1959 Plymouth 2dr. sedan Hotrod--I got a built up 360 4brl. I went with the a518 cause it will bolt right up to a SBMopar and its got a 30% OD-so I can run 4.10 or 4.30 gears but in OD it will work out to like 2.94 final drive. The a518 requires no extra shift position-just a switch to turn it off and some vacuum and pressure switches to shift in/out of OD on its own. Its a tough unit just be sure to have the OD looked at first! Lots of Mopar guys are goin that way-I've seen them adapted to 440's and Hemi's as well. oh, and TRUST ME--that 340 will make more than the advertised 275hp--my 360 will make 367hp on the dyno with the "resto" Purple Cam, .030 over flat tops and a Carter TQ 4 barrel--your motor will make 325 easy! Although, I don't know that I'd be spinning it up to 7500 with stock rotating assembly or without some serious bottom end work-just a thought from an old school Mopar Man!

FINALLY!!!...a couple of pics of the family workhorse.

Well, its back from the dead! Got the frame all fixed up, gas tank in, and the new shocks on. Its got a pretty good shutter at 55mph but it "goes away" at 60mph. Under 50mph you can't feel a thing. I'm guessing its those 31's that I put on that I got from a buddy- they must need balancing. Track bar is less than a year old as is the steering damper shock and all 4 control arms, and the tie rods and ball joints don't have any slop. Anyone got any ideas what else it could be if its not tires? :Canadaflag:  :USAflag: -
here it is, the commuter! the damn Flux Capacitor keeps putting the"CHECK ENGINE" light on. Imperial, you must either have a ranch or some kind of paradise to commute that far (and I thought I lived out in the "country"). From the time I pull out of my driveway (if I don't stop for a biscuit and coffee) I can be at work in 20-25 minutes. Oh BTW, hats off to you Imperial and all the firefighters out there. Thanks Wooky-I appreciate it! I live in the country on a little bit of property--I work in the big city(suburbs of Toronto) . I would HATE to live in the city (I'm a simple country boy) but I love working there because we(my station) are busy. You are in the Atlanta area--cool--been to Georgia a few times-I have relatives in Tifton. Thanks again.

THANKS! To tell you the truth ...I really don't know--it sits the way I bought it. Its got add-a-leafs in the rear and I'm pretty sure the front springs had a Chrysler part# sticker on them so....?? I always thought it looked like it sat a little higher than stock MJ's but your guess is as good as mine. :D -

Wanted: someone to tabulate Comanche data
Imperial21 replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Looks good! I was reading some stuff in the post and looking at the build sheet I had printed out for my '91 LWB---two options that struck me funny were: ALA--SE decor Group, and Z5B--Payload Rating 1800lbs. Any ideas about those? is the SE the Sportruck? why would the payload be different?:Canadaflag: -
I'm glad I drive the Neon R/T to work. I'm a fireman that works seven 24hr shifts per month. Work is about 230km away, that's 460km round trip, 3220km per month(2000 miles/month). The car costs about $50 to fill (with reg. 47 Litres-12.4 gal)and that is good for a round trip plus a bit. So that's about $350/month in fuel(just to get to and from work). I remember the first time I filled the car up from empty with "Super" it was $38-that was 2002  . The 'Manche isn't terrible on gas-I've driven worse(grew up drivin my Dad's 60's Mopar Musclecars ) but I sure am glad I have some little POS to fall back on. :Canadaflag:

I think it looks good! edit---BTW, that is a really nice lookin rig! awesome red with the flares to match! got a shot of the front?-I'd like the see the bush guard on the front.

Maybe a silly Q? but is 80W90 about the best to use in the front and rear difs? Is there an additive for posi--Mopar used to call for an additive for SureGrip rear ends--is that still the case for the Dana44 with posi? Also, I don't have a manual, does the tranny/T-case call for autotrans fluid or something heavier? thanks! Brian :Canadaflag:

did you get the Ford 5.0L ones or the stock Jeep ones? I read somewhere the the Ford ones have a wider spray patern. Saw a set of 23lbs/hr Ford ones on FleaBay the other day. :Canadaflag:

Not being able to get into gear at stop signs is a clutch problem, not a tranny problem. Although if you keep grinding it enough, the clutch problem can [ui]create[/i] a tranny problem ... I'm glad you are one of the lucky ones! The other thing it used to do was "hop" out of gear on its own--like if you were rolling down the highway and you let off the gas, it would just pop into neutral(usually with a crunch). It would also often whine in neutral with the engine running. And I would hardly say that the transmission was abused-I only owned it for 2 years, it had low miles, saw light offroad use, and wasn't treated like a racecar.

I had the Puegot trans in my 89 YJ--it got so bad I couldn't hardly get it in and out of gear at a stop sign and it would grind while shifting on the highway. I had the trans rebuilt and new clutch and slave--it was fine for about 3 months then it started grinding again. P.O.S. tranmissions they are! they are weak due to their clamshell design--anything I ever read about them says they are barely adequate for a stock jeep.--think about it...Puegot built crappy little French cars and bicycles--AMC/Jeep probably used these trannies because they were like a nickle cheaper per unit than an :USAflag: American transmission.
