  1. yeah I was always told not to buy a model that changed on the first year. (87 yj was first year) well you can probably guess that I'm gonna ask this will the 4.0 non-HO long block swap into a 4.2 carbed or a 4.0 HO????
  2. I was also wondering what year yj (wrangler) too! I read some where that the yj was 4.2L up to 92. did they ever come with a non-ho 4.0 w/renix?
  3. I know I've read this here but couldn't find it. I have an 88 comanche with the 4.0L and I'm looking into putting it into a jeep(after the cj) or a cherokee and can't remember what years this 1988 was used. It has the renix comp so that must be the same too. If any can tell me, thanks in advance.
  4. glad to see there are a few members that are truckers. Time will tell if its for me. I think that if you have your own rig and make your own trips it would be much better and if things work out I might just get my own rig and do my own thing. Jeep on and keep on truckin!

I found this one reman co. called mantrans. about 2k for a rebuilt trans and tranfer with bm shifter and an install kit. Frank C
  6. Hey all, been at the PTDI driving academy learning to drive big rigs. I got to say the go pedal isn't skinny :) It was a tough course. The class started at around 180 and only 38 graduated. Well I'm home only a few more days then I go over the road. I read that there might be a meet at tellico this spring/summer and if I was gonna be here I'd invite who ever wanted to stay here but I can't say where i'll be at that time. Well gotta get rollin. seee yaa Frank C
  7. pimp daddy fo sure, did you do the headliner or did the shop do it. Just wondering cuz I tried glueing some fabric on mine and it would never stay glued so I was just wondering how they glued it on. Let me know.
  8. 87manche, I just thought i'd ask cuz they changed from renix to whatever the ho uses and thought they might have moved it or used something different. I don't recall reading anything about the crank sensor either. thanks
  9. I was also wondering what years the bellhousing used the crank sensor that is in the same location as my 88 bell. Also are the 4x4 grand cherokees with the 4.0L donor canidates for the ax15 and tc?
  10. 87manche, no seriously, it was fine before I changed the fluid. something in the old fluid was keeping it going and the new fluid cleaned it too much or :?: All I know is my new rebuild .30 over really screams so I guess all that new HP to the ol goat with I assume 250k on it was the last straw for the goat to chew. I was messing with a new chevy v-8 (after the goat started, I might add)and it was almost neck to neck. I can say one thing, when I changed the goat to valvaline synt 75w-90 it really freed up some horse's.
  11. Mine does it too! It comes on even if your at 600 or some rpm that makes no sense. I just ignore it and rev it out til it barks in 3rd.
  12. junkyards are too high. They all think there stuff is gold or something. I'm just gonna find a private party that has a cherokee with a blown motor for around 100 to 300 bucks and canabalize it and sell it for a parts car or donate it to the junk yard. Thats why I asked about the differences between ours and the cherokees. I've read so much that I can't remember now what I read about the cherokees being clocked differently. I guess I can call advance adapters to get the low down.
  13. 87manche, yeah I knew someone was going to mention the external slave bellhousing. Its the same housing except for the cutout for the external slave right? Are the 95+ ax15's clocked different on the cherokee and if I get a 95 ax15 with the tc is that just bolt in?
  14. I can't believe it :!: I give the goat some fresh juice and it starts knocking and racheting and everything else. I tried 80-90w it was knocking so I thought I give it valvealine syn 75w 90 and still knocking. I guess the only option now is pull it out and take it out back and shoot it. I'm going to a ax15 and so far I've found out that you have to>>> change the input shaft on the np231 to a long 1/2" 23 spline. get the bellhousing with the tranny for a 4.0l that has the crank sensor cutout. I'm planning on using my internal slave so an ax15 from 89-94? get the trans mounts that goes with the ax15. Well if anyone can think of anything else I would appreciate your input. Let me know if all cherokee's with the ax15/(using my np231) from 89-94 will be bolt on. thanks "The goat killer"
  15. OK, I have yet another question, I checked out the lockers on ebay. My question is; I you go to a lockers on the d30 front diff are you still able to disconnect the front like if you have the original setup :?: I'd like to be able to have the posi only when I engauge the 4wd. thanks
  16. 88swampedmj, I think your problem is related to the steering column you replaced. On the column under the dash on the right hand side there are 3 wire connectors. One is a long thin one that clips on to the column. Above that connector are two sockets on the column. I would push those two in and make sure they have a good connection. You will see on one of the connectors a heavy gauge yellow wire so you know that you are looking at the right wire connectors. Let me know if this is it. Thanks Frank C
  17. hey you all lost me :!: Lincoln lock what's that (welded spider gears)? what's full and mini spool. The only spools i know are on a fishing reel or spooling up a turbo to get good 60 foot times. :? oh well, maybe I should just stick to dragin the grand nationals.
  18. 88swampedmj, have you determined your problem yet? let me know cuz I think I know whats up. Frank C
  19. hackedmj, well I got the pukegoat,np231 and both diffs fluid changed and put on a new husky class 3 receiver this week. I'm wanting to build some bumpers but I have to get a mig welder first but i've been checking out some of the other mj owners rigs and doing a lil japanese engineering. Today I got inspired and went wheelin on the ol wagon train road to andrews. It was a nice ride thru the snowbird mountains but no real 4x4ing. There were signs along the way about it being built in 1838 by gen fields by the us army for the trail of tears. I detoured off to another road up to Joanna bald lookout and man what a view. I'll let ya know if I get with some locals on squally and other trails. you need to find time and get rolling. L8R Frank
  20. Eagle, I think the rv cam would do wonders for my truck. Here in the mountains of WNC we have grades up to 9 percent and when climbing them you have to be in 3rd gear(I have a 5 speed) to run about 40mph if that. I think I should of spent the extra 100 bucks and got one when I rebuilt my motor. It would have hauled trailers better and it would make it better for off road too :!: oh well, there is always next time. Frank C
  21. Welcome Duffer, congrats on your mj. You made a good choice and you found a good place too! Got any questions yet? Have any pic's? i'd like to see it. Frank C
  22. I guess yours was more worn then mine or had already been bored. I was wanting to put a rv cam in it to give me more torque in the higher rpms but I got a master rebuild kit and it only cam with one choice of cams. I still feel like I needed a torquer cam now. I guess it might be due to the fact i have 3.07 gears. what's your build plan?
  23. I just rebuilt mine, had to go 30 over cuz when I pulled it the clock read 250k and the top of the bore was std. so the moral of this story is if you have a engine with 250k it will be worn where you will probably have to go 30 over. Mines running good. after about 1k it started to come alive. good luck
