Anybody know the differences between Aussie, Lock-Right and Powertrax lockers? Pros and cons of each? Quality of each compared to the others?

ANY SOUTHERN TRIPS PLANED ?
mvusse replied to ICEBOX's topic in Adventure Planning / Regional Groups
Attica, Indiana (Badlands Offroad Park) is no farther from you than it is for me. Why don't you join us (weekend of) Oct 25th? -
And here in Ohio, if you don't have insurance, you are automatically found at fault for the accident, no matter who caused it. But from dealing with my insurance when a drunk biker without insurance OR a license went left of center and hit my Suburban, I don't wish that on anyone. It is a HUGE PIA to deal with that, and you don't get your deductible back until the insurance has been reimbursed fully, which can take years.

Here in Ohio, if the damage is over 75% of the vehicle they total it and essentially buy the vehicle from you. They pay you the value (according to an independent appraiser) of the vehicle and take your title. You can usually buy it back for $100 or so (less than scrap value), but you will get back a salvage title. Then you need to have it inspected to get the title changed to salvage-repaired in order to be able to plate it, but it will never be a clear title again. For me to pass inspection I need to replace the parking brake cables, replace the windshield and get a cat. Not worth it. I would have instead looked for another one (like the one it Attica with 287k that needs an engine for $500) and change stuff over from my old one. In order to keep the truck with a clear title they could only pay me $913.78 (I already have the check) instead of the $1098.07 the body shop quoted because the truck only appraised at $1218.38 Don't ask me where that number came from. That actually surprises me a bit with the big rust hole in the side of the bed, the dents and rust all over the place, multi colored white/black/grey/dark grey/hunter green/teal front end and rotted rear bumper. Some time in the future I will go vacationing in the south to hopefully pick up a bed in better shape, as it is honestly not worth repairing this one. Meanwhile the insurance company is paying for my lift.

Don't forget UV (from the sun) breaks down epoxy resins. That's why concrete outdoor pools have to be repainted every 10-15 years. But if I can paint a 23000 gallon pool with a 2 part epoxy paint for less than $300, $6 to $7 for a can IS pricey.

I was hoping for more, but yeah, it makes me happy. :D

I was too busy having fun last time to remember I had a camera with me. Will try not to let that happen again.

Insurance came back to me. I'm keeping my truck with a clear title, they are paying me enough to lift her a bit more, pay gas to Badlands and back, and enough left to hopefully pick up a bed and paint the whole truck. Going to Badlands with the current bed, though. Won't have to worry about body damage on it leaving the pipe. Think I'll try the right hand side this time

They supposedly mailed me a check today for $913.75 and I'm keeping the truck with a clear title. I tried to get them to go higher, but they said they can't without totalling it. That should pay for a bed, a bunch of rattle cans, half of a 3" lift (3" front, Chevy drop shackles in back) and gas to and from Badlands Oct 25.

I did that on my F100. The leafs are very brittle and will break when tension is released too fast. The only safe way to do it that I found is to clamp the pack together with a C clamp on each side of the bolt. Then remove the nut, but leave the bolt itself in the hole to keep the leafs aligned. Now slowly release the tension by loosening the clamps. I don't know where you can buy new bolts, but I always use new ones I get from a place down the road that specializes in brakes, hydraulics and suspensions. mainly on semis and large trucks, but they have all sizes leaf pack bolts by the 5 gallon bucket.

I have run my Olds 98, my Suburban and my F100 with the cap removed to prevent the system from pressurizing and losing coolant through a pinhole leak. No problems. But all those vehicles have huge radiators and you can actually see the thermostat opening and closing by watching the temperature gauge. I tried on my Jeep and every time I slowed down after high speed freeway driving (like stopped at the border, or traffic jam) it started boiling, causing me to lose coolant faster than if I'd left the cap on. of course I found this out on the way to Canada. I just barely made it across the border before I completely ran out and the gauge started moving up fast enough to see it moving. Coasted into a motel parking lot to let it cool and get a bucket of water. For the way back I McGuyvered my heater controls to the aux fan I had installed but not wired in yet and took 2 buckets of water with me, which managed to get me home. Still had a bucket left, even. Anyway, the point is you can try it, but it's not guaranteed to work.

This might sound silly, and don't be offended, but: Did you check the bulbs? Years ago I spend a week trying to find an electrical problem with my headlights before I realized both bulbs had burned out.

Need a pic of your exhaust

I know when I start my truck, and at certain amount of throttle at certain engine speed, the end of my front pipe is rattling on the transmission cross member. -

The most recent car that can honestly be called a muscle car is a Dodge Viper. The new corvettes have the HP, but I would categorize them as a sports car.

Yeah, stabil. I use it in my mower last time I mow before winter. never had a problem starting in spring, and no carburator rebuild yet in 14 years. Deck is starting to rot through, though. Darned metal eating termites!

Well, body shop says $1100 with a used tail light, and the bed corner shown earlier in this thread. Appraiser is supposed to come look at my truck this afternoon.

Nope, sorry, can't do. The only thing stock on mine is the front pipe. Everything after that is custom, what happened to fit and dumped down in front of the axle. -
My daughter drives a Sunfire, but it has the factory spoiler (little bitty thing) and stock exhaust. Her mother gave it to her, and it gets great mileage, so why not?

Attica, Indiana http://www.badlandsoffroad.com/ I've been there only once, and it's an awesome place to play, even in a stock Comanche (with good tires)

My buddy's ricer (Honda Civic) and my Jeep are the only cars out of everyone I know that are made in the US, Everybody elses "american cars" are made either in Canada or Mexico.

Of course they'd tell you that. They are in the business to sell you stuff you don't need.

What size is the fill/drain plug on transfer case?
mvusse replied to bobweiser's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
X2. I had it laying around from replacing a front axle on my Geo. -
Yeah, I didn't have the correct (metric) socket, so I used a close imperial size that kind of worked. It twisted so badly stuck on the nut it will not come off without cutting it. I tried everything else I can think off, but it's not hurting anything, so I'll just leave it there. If I still have the Jeep, it'll help me get the springs of next year when I lift it.
