  1. What are your thoughts on it? Was it worth the time and money? Did you have any trouble with assembly or installation? I have been giving it some thought for quite a while and would love some input from people with first hand experience. Also, has anyone seen or worked with Hesco's aluminum head?
  2. Has any one got em? Lets see what they look like! I'm thinking of getting one but I'm not exactly sure what if any of my visibility it will block and if it gets in the way of anything.
  3. I don't fully understand what the benefits of changing cooling systems is. I am kind of a Newb when it comes to beefing up XJ's and MJ's and such. I have probably had ten XJ's through the years but never did any real mods to them just maintinence. TJ's and CJ's are another story :brows: Is there a drawback to the closed system? Or just because it is a bit of a PIA to get all of the air out of it when replacing the coolant?
  4. This is what I was getting at but didn't describe it correctly.
  5. I don't see anything wrong with that.
  6. Yea not a bad deal for sure
  7. This actually happened because Synthetic oil, while providing FAR superior protection, is much thinner than conventional oil. You may even notice a slight drop in oil pressure. Putting conventional oil back in may stop the rear main from leaking for now, but it is on it's way out, you will be in there soon enough replacing it. If it is the two piece seal it really isn't that bad of a job to do. Worst part is taking off the oilpan.
  8. I wasn't going to change it out right away, I just wanted to know what I should have on the shelf for when the time comes :D I really don't have any troubles right now especially since I just replaced the entire clutch system except for the flywheel. i did Master cyl ,hose, internal slave, disk and pressure plate. I am noticing some effort is needed to go from 1st to 2nd and in OD there somtimes is a strange growl. I have had them come apart on me before with way less than 180K so I figured better safe than sorry!
  9. What exactly is the "Rocking Chair" warning? I know in past XJ's I have owned I have broken a few seat frames
  10. If you are talking about the Hazard flashers, They normally will stop flashing when you step on the brakes. For the T/S I had the same trouble when I got my MJ, All the fuses looked good but nothing worked. I took each lens out and cleaned all the contacts for the bulbs and replaced all of the bulbs at the same time. They worked for a second then stopped. Frustrated... I Put in a new flasher, Same results worked for a sec than stopped. Now it's a blown fuse. I replaced the fuse and havn't had a problem since. On closer inspection all of the fuses had a wierd white corrosion on them inside of the plastic bodies. So I ended up putting all new fuses in so I wouldn't have to deal with it later. All in all I spent about $20 at the autoparts store for all the bulbs fuses and the flasher can.
  11. Thanks! It was originally a TX truck and then parked in a garage for quite a while till I got it. Not to much rust but there is a soft spot in the trans tunnel that I found when I put the clutch in. Otherwise it runs great! I drove it to Buffalo one time and Maine another and it got almost 18mpg with the 31s. I am working on Really fixing up the interior cause it is my DD New carpet new seats, Power windows and locks etc. I just pulled all of the plastic out and I am going to dye it all black. Next summer I will probably get it painted and rhino lined.
  12. I'm a big guy (6'4" 260) the cab in my MJ is a little cramped. I want to free up some room. Will Buckets from an XJ bolt in or is there modifications that will need to be made? My other thought was the Mastercraft seats, again they would have to use XJ brackets. What have some of the other big guys on here done to make life in the MJ a little more comfortable? I like the stretched Cheromanche's I have seen on here but that is way more work than I want to get involved with right now. Maybe after I get the shop up and running! :D
  13. My 88 has the DREADED Peugeot 5spd in it. I know it is only a matter of time with 180k on the odometer before this thing goes to hell on me. What is the trans that I should replace it with? No slush drive... It has to be a manual! Preferably 5spd but I could deal with 4. I would like to have it on hand before this one goes bad being it is my DD.
  14. I'm not sure on what size Drum you have... But If you have em apart just replace EVERYTHING. Do shoes and the hardware kit, and get the Drums cut at a minimum and take a good look at the wheel cylinders, You are so for in already wouldn't want to take all that apart again cause the wheel cylinder started leaking a week later! And if you break the rusty steel brake line getting the wheel cylinders off they need to be replaced anyway!
  15. Hi I'm Erik, I'm from Philadelphia PA, I sorta recently added an 88 MJ Chief to my list of "problems" :brows: Found this place and it looks like a wealth of information! Here are my rigs: This is my LJ, The flagship of the fleet! :D These are older pics. It's on AiRock now and has a Rokmen Merc GT bumper now. This is My MJ... I don't have a ton of pics yet but... Soon enough! My M38 Before it got torn down: And the CJ that Dad Gave me when I was younger. As you can see I have the bug pretty bad  Hope that I can gain some and give some on this forum!
