We have a hard enough time finding Comanches up here in the Great White North (yes, it snowed today.....). If I could find a junkyard that had enough comanches that I could cut corners off...welll.....I'd probably never be on here. :D

That sounds like a good plan. -
Is there anywhere that sells replacement cab corners? A friend told me he thought you could get them for Comanches.....

I'm probably going to be VERY patient, and try to find myself a white 97+ 2.5l cherokee that has been rear-ended. That way, I could do a fresh aesthetic swap over on top of the technical swap. If I become impatient, it will become the technical swap only. :) Steering box? Just an upgrade....I hear they bolt in and have a quicker response....walked by the junkyard and it was there, so figured it might have been nice to have. -

Okay, so I struck out at the junkyard. Had a steering box from a ZJ, but no pitman puller....darn. No other jeeps except a couple of 88-90 XJ's with the 4.0 engines. So, here's what I have so far.... SOA bolt on kit including: bolt on spring pads, extended rear brake line,E-brake cable drop bracket,U bolts and plates and all hardware Lower control arms adjustable track bar I'm looking for axles...unfortunately, with the smaller population, there's less junkyard vehicles to pick from up here. So regarding the axles....is there a best one to get if I am looking for 4.10 gears? And I'm assuming that with 33's and the 4.0, the 4.10's will work fine? -
Correct. This is evident to anyone who has ever owned a ZJ and went looking for a rear 44. You stumble across the info that ZJ's had a rear Dana 44, and think you've hit the jackpot! That should bolt right in! Then you realize that it is the aluminum housing and your hopes are dashed.....it's a sad cycle....

That....is s-e-x-y!

With my wife hacking and coughing, and co-workers having gone to Mexico? Yeah.

No worries...I just felt the discussion might be better served in one spot. :)

I know this is an old thread, but I have some useful info to add. These 45RFE trannys are very good, we have one in our Liberty. Quite stout, no real issues.....except the following: http://forum.calgaryjeep.com/index.php?topic=11469.0 About $180 to fix and it now drives like a dream. When you pull away from the start line with it floored, the tach rides right up to the red before dropping into 2nd, then does the same thing again before hitting third. Almso 240,000km on our KJ, and this transmission is acting like it is new.

Definately, they would have had to reinforce the hell outta it. Anyone else find any contenders yet?

If only they had made a drop top Comanche.....sighhh..... I was gonna snag this whole truck for $350 and try until I saw the rear fenders.... http://reddeer.kijiji.ca/c-ViewAdLargeI ... ha_18.jpeg

Right, I figured that was a given. ;) So we know we can make a Ford Stepside fit, and for me, it's not how it looks - it's how it looks on this jeep. Do a 2500 conversion and that stepside starts to look better, but it's still up against the boxy doors. I'm thinking that the biggest problem with that bed is the rear fenders...something "straighter" might work better. Problem with this style: Is the body line that runs into the cab....never mind the size difference. Rangers, same thing: Dunno if it is possible to mask that with paint and pinstriping, or if something else out there works....I'm still looking. Need more coffee and Bailey's. That'll help.

I started another topic on this as the search engine wouldn't take any form of a search for "bed swap", so I'm jumping into the conversation here. What are the main issues with swapping a bed over? Once you find the correct lengths it basically just redrilling the bolt holes, or do you need to do a lot of work to make it fit onto a shortbox Comanche? One of the things that has always bugged me about doing a 97+ conversion is the need to find an extremely clean bed....and when you do, you usually find an extremely clean front, so why bother change it over?
-
Okay, I'll post over on that thread instead of continuing on here....feel free to lock this one, and we can chat over there. :)

Thinking of all the new front end conversions that people do (97+), is there a bed fro a newer truck that would swap over pretty easily? Like one of those more rounded Dakota or S10 beds?

Heading to the pick and pull today....anything besides YJ brake lines and axles I should look for while I am there? Is there a "PnP suggested list" posted somewhere? -

In order to get the 4:10 gears? I know the rear axle is different for swapping in, how about the front? Bolt in? -

Well, my hope is to build this manche on a budget, as tight as I can. While new axles and new gears, etc. would be nice, I'd like to forgo that for now if possible, and build it into a decent wheeler with 32-33's....I'm assuming 31's will look way to small on it. -

SOA kit is already bought, so unfortunately the money is spent. :) As for tire size, I was thinking something around 32-33's possibly, depending on the fit. On and off-road rig...not heavy wheeling. -

Is there anything specific that I should be looking for, or anything specific that swaps over from say an XJ/ZJ/TJ/YJ? I heard that running ZJ coils for a lift is the biggest myth out there....but I know people use the rear ones in the from of a ZJ for a Front to Rear 4.5" lift swap....especially the Up Country Springs. -
Hi all, I used to have a Comanche last year, 2wd, but sold it cause we didn't have room or time...looks like the bug bit again. I just couldn't stay away from this one.... Bought it Saturday for a grand total of $250CAD (that's something like $35 American Pesos lol). Some rust holes, 398,637kms.....and runs like STINK. I think this sucker is faster off the line than my wife's 2003 Jetta TDI. I can smoke the rear tires if I want. What a difference from a 2wd long box 2.5l 4 cyl. Purrs like a kitten, although it does have some issues. Short box, bucket seats, 5 speed, and comes with 2wd, 4H and 4L. Friday's shopping is completed, just need to pick up, and decide what I want for the front end.... sway bar drop brackets Rocky Road tubular gusseted lower control arms, greasable urethane bushings for 3-6" inch lifts. Rough Country adjustable track bar Rough Country or Rocky Road (can't remember) bolt- on SPOA kit All that for a total of the price of the truck pretty much. Should be a good start. :) My question is....what is the CORRECT thing to get for the front of this rig, to match the rest of the lift? Thanks, and glad to be back. :)
