X2 I think the seller was vintage-parts. The only bummer about the rocker panels is that they are designed to fit over the old, and I wanted the ones to cut out and replace completely, but I made them work out with some modification. And I had to fab up new back for them. and lastly I had to fab up new cab corners because they were not long enough, but I kinda expected that. For the price it worked out well IMO.

All most In a accident ( Need Help)
moparmatt replied to fatcat0491's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Man, if that ever happens again, put it in Neutral, then safely come to a stop and work it out. I had this happen with my first car. -
Haha, That thing looks familiar. But a little different some paint, tires, longarms. Nice, like what you done to it. Do you still got the XJ?

How much paint to paint an MJ?
moparmatt replied to moparmatt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have sprayed cars before, mostly the rusty color rustolem primer and the Dupont nason green primer. I was the primer guy. :D Thanks I think I will spray instead of rattlecan $$$$. I have tons of thinner and I will run down the to the paint store and get some harder. I do not like waiting for paint to dry because it is like waiting for paint to dry. This is going to be cool. I cannot wait until it gets a bit warmer out. I still have some body work and need more tape and some sandpaper before I paint it. + = I will post pics when I am done. -
How much paint to paint an MJ?
moparmatt replied to moparmatt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=150 It is Glossy enamel oil based paint. Or http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=30 -
Any that has done this already. I am stuck between two colors that I like. One color I can only find in rattle can. (Metallic Blue Rustolem) The other is gallon size Royal Blue Rustolem. So my question is if I go with rattle can how many cans? And If I go spray gun how many gallons/quarts do I need? TIA

Metal is at it highest scrap price...... I work in new construction and they take everything that is metal. Wires, pipe, ladders, scaffolding and anything metal.

Cool, those are good spots. Keep'em coming..... Anyone mount one behind the seat?

Searched!!! I swear I have seen a thread like this before, maybe it was a different forum. Anyway........ Where do you guys with Hi-Lifts (48") store your jacks in your MJ's, with security/theft in mind? If you can please post pics?

Yes I do, I have to leave in a few minutes. When I get back I will post a pic of mine. pics of my little brothers bumper we built. Not done in these pics, I will post updates. I did not want to high jack this thread, so I posted my rear bumper I welded with my Clark welder on the rear bumper thread. http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/view ... 9584#89584 second page. Oh BTW CW that sounds like a killer deal on a Hobart 140, Nice

Well here is my inspired bumper I talked about on page 1 My next project is to fix all the rust and rust holes and paint it. Not sure what color yet, was think of the John Deere Green/Yellow scheme. Usually I paint the factory color but I am not a fan of the color white on vehicles.

Fronts should be exactally the same. Rears are way different on everything.

Tape measure and Sharpie. I will be building one this Summer.

I really like mine Welded my floor pans in my XJ, welded up 3 different exhaust systems, two rear bumpers 3/16" and 1/4" thick, and a bunch of misc. stuff. I have gone though about ~30lbs of wire with all my projects so far. FYI I have owned it for about a year now.

Calling all 2" budget lift MJ's - Shock ?
moparmatt replied to moparmatt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Fairly new, the PO changed them when he first bought it. He only owned the MJ for 6 months. I had it 3 months. So they are less than about a year old. I will look around for some extensions. I guess I cold make some out of old XJ rear swaybar brackets. Thanks -
Another Rusty's Lift Kit thread
moparmatt replied to moparmatt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Cool you are just the man I wanted to talk to... If you are not running Rusty's adjustable arms which brand and size are you using. Also another question for you, if you had to do it over again would you do the same lift kit or would you do it different, if so how? Before I saw Rusty's SOA kit I was going homebrew/piece a kit together. And go long arms. -
Another Rusty's Lift Kit thread
moparmatt replied to moparmatt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I am going to do an axle swap the same time I am going to do the lift. My MJ has a D35 3.07 I have a 8.25 3.55 and a front D30 3.55 to swap in the same time I do the lift. I might as well buy 1" coil spacer the same time so it does not look lame. Hell if I leave the rear end to sit up that high and with the new gearing I might do some wheelies :D Put the stock tires on. Oh the possibilities.... -

Anyone running a engine driven OBA?
moparmatt replied to LJRockstar's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oh you will love it. I did it in a 95 XJ. Actually it is pretty easy. For a while I did not use a tank, but I did install a tank because I wanted to use air tools. As a matter of fact the a/c is very powerful. More powerful than my POS in my garage. Try to say away from rubber/plastic hose as much as possible, I had to re-do my plumbing because the hose kept bursting when it got hot. Copper is the way to go. I justed looked at my photobucket account and my pics of my set-up are gone I will try to re-host and post them for you. About total I spent about $100/120 doing the whole thing. -
Another Rusty's Lift Kit thread
moparmatt replied to moparmatt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I am going to do a SOA, I own a welder. Which company sells a long kit for a few hundred more? That would be awesome. But really my question is "With the Rusty's 4.5" SOA kit will the truck be level?" I would like the rear to sit a tad bit higher than the front, but not extreme. From what I understand you gain ~5-6" from a SOA, will it be level. Or should I buy a coil spacer to help level the truck out, also if I level it with the spacer will the shocks that come with the kit be long enough? -
I know this topic has been talked of many times before. I did a bunch of research here and other forums before I would ask here. My plans were to run the Rusty's 4.5" SOA. Seems like a good deal to work around. (Upgrade the steering later when I get more $) I have heard Rustys leaves a bad taste in peoples mouths because there leaf springs sag fast, the track bars suck, and the customer service is bad. Lucky the 4.5" re-uses the stock springs. And the rest I am willing to take the risk. Two local guys in my Jeep club have had no problems with Rustys. Must be a location thing. But my concern is, from my research many yield ~5 to 6" from a SOA lift. The Rusty's SOA kit is 4.5" should I buy a 1 or 2" spacer for the front coil springs. Also will the shocks be long enough if I would have to go 1 or 2" higher in the front. TIA :D
