  1. 85mph? You guys don't give the 2.5 nearly enough credit. I still have a $385 ticket around here somewhere that I recieved way back in my younger days when I had my '89 2.5 MJ. Recorded speed; 151Km/h (just a little shy of 100mph), and I was just reaching for 5th gear when I spotted the highway patrol car. Nice MJ btw and best of luck with the swap.
  2. SO... you think they put ABS on every 91-up XJ/MJ sold in Canada just so the DRL's would work? Because they were indeed mandatory from '91 on. You probably didn't realize that for the '91 model year the speedo's changed from mechanical to electronic, thus the signal to activate the lights simply comes from the same speed sensor that feeds the speedo. That being said the ones on my '91 never worked (and I never cared), but I have a '93 here scrapped that they did work properly. We've also had a '91 US model that was rigged up so that as soon as you stepped on the brake to shift from park it activated the park light circuit. I kind of liked the idea that it put on lights in both the front and rear, but as it also activated the dash lights it was hard to remember to turn on the headlights when it started getting dark. We also have a '90 US model XJ here that for some reason also has DRL's. Anyone know if that might have been an option on the Limited's? They aren't speed sensitive and activate the high beams at reduced voltage when the key is in the run position. I haven't looked real closely at the headlight wiring on that rig but it didn't appear to be a hack job. Anyway I would guess that the original posters rig, being a '91, would have all the required wiring in place so it should be as easy a sourcing the module and plug 'n play. Good luck and if you want I can look a little closer at the '90 and see if that system could be easily (and neatly) adapted.
  3. Might be helpful for you to know that a lot of 2wd MJ shafts are a double tube design with a rubber layer between the tubes and therefore aren't good candidates for being shortened. 2 out of my 3 2wd's had this type shaft.

    New here

Well I got a little intro on the truck up in the intro's thread now it's time to introduce myself. While I'm new on here some of you may remember me from a few years back when I was a NAXJA regular as tchase. I know me and Eagle chatted a few times and I think Pete helped me out with some questions I had when I was doing my AW4 swap. My name is Tony and I'm from Nova Scotia, Canada. I'm active in the local Jeep club and wheel as often as I can manage, which isn't near as often as I'd like. Something to do with the 4 Jeeps in the driveway all fighting for shop time I think. Sorry to have to admit that that's actually 3 XJ's and just one MJ, but my first Jeep was an MJ so I think you all know where my heart is. Besides there are actually 2 more MJ's they just aren't here right now. Anyways I look forward to getting back in touch with some folks and meeting some new. I'll be in touch Tony
  5. Well here she is: I'm afraid that's all you get for pics at the moment. I'll put some more up in the projects section sometime later. I'm on dial-up here and it's just to aggravating dealing with a lot of pics. Plus I've got some wrenching to do tonight. This is the 4th MJ we've owned, but the first 4x4 and the first 4.0. She's an '89 and started life as a 2wd 5spd. I bought it several years ago and it had already been converted to 4wd but with a TF999 and NP207 from an '87 YJ. Due to the fact that we are a multi-jeep family this truck actually sat in the driveway for almost a full year before I even touched it. Got the rusty box patched up enough to get her roadworthy in Dec '05 and have been beating on it ever since. Thankfully the t-flite only lasted for a few months before expireing a few weeks before the '06 Jeep Jamboree. So in went a 23 spline AW4 and NP242, suddenly I had a whole different truck :D This springs swap to 4.10's from the original 3.07's made a big difference also. I've done a few other little things along the way that I'll cover in the projects section but for now I just wanted to get her introduced to you all.
