SayBye Posted November 24, 2014 Share Posted November 24, 2014 So Ive been considering linking the rear of my MJ. Ive got my own budget way Ive done on a few Cherokees and it works well. With budget in mind, keeping the factory gas tank is something I would want to do. Has anyone moved it into the bed, toward the cab and allowed the tank to sit on the pench seam rim that goes around the tank? Incommando Posted March 31, 2015 Share Posted March 31, 2015 You can get a good in the bed locking tool box just slightly larger than the tank for about $60. Mount the tank to the box. mount the box to the bed. Plumb through a hole drilled through both floors. Use grommets. Cut a hole and attach a CJ/YJ/TJ style gas surround to the side of the tool box for filling. you could also run a fuel transfer tube out of the box and up to a filler ( even the factory one) mounted in the bed under the bed rail. This is the type I have seen used in a Cherokee. It was a summit racing brand 20 gallon tank that came with a sending unit already installed. It did not come with mounting equipment but summit sells a mounting kit separately. Just listing options. I am looking into that option as well. My current gas tank dumps fuel until I am below 3/4 tank. I am hoping that it is just a sending unit that is broken or a bad connection.
