If you are going to do the auto, you will need the wiring harness and tranny controller as well. You could be in for A LOT of work doing that swap in an '86.

The AX-15 would be the easiest swap for a manual. It would be best to find one of like year model, but most any will work...just some take a little more effort than others, especially where the pilot bushing/bearing is concerned. There are at least 2-3 recent threads about just that if you do a little searching.

I have not done a AW4 swap personally. I am not sure about compatibility from a 4.0L to a 2.5L harness unless you are changing all of the wiring and not just the tranny harness. That will likely take a little more research. I know it's not a terribly hard thing to do if you already have a 4.0L though.

If you go the AX-15 direction, try to find one that is '91+ to match your motor. It will make it much easier to get a match on the pilot.

No...I have not done the leaf conversion on mine ;) .

Auto or manual is really more of a personal preference (as long as you've got the right gearing). Me, I like manual transmissions.... for everything. :D We once owned a minivan with a manual in it. jamminz.gif
