pingpong Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 Here is my situation. I have a 90 AW4 with np231, with a SYE insatlled in the garage. MY question is what all do I need to swap that into the Turd, which has the beloved puke goat in it. I got the the TCU from a 1987, but not sure of everything I need to pull this swap off. Any help would be great.
Wildman Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 Besides the Transmission?? Change out the flywheel > Flex plate TV cable and bracket/linkage at the TB. Change out the TPS. Auto shift cable, and if you want......lock out cable from steering column. Floor shifter......or change out the steering column for a column shift  Change out the floor peddles, unless you have a use for the clutch pedal :brows: Rear drive shaft, different length. Oh.....and transmission mount at the cross member. And I'm thinking that the wiring harness is the same for the TCU to plug and play. I thing I got it all ;) Easy job.......for you Pat :D

The one they used with the manual does not have the place to hook up the TV cable --The complete tranny wiring harness. There are wires to a second output on the auto TPS, and to the brake pedal. Make sure you get the harness from a Renix era Jeep, the TCU connectors are different in the 91+.
Geonovast Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 I'm assuming you have a driveshaft for the SYE? IIRC the pukey and AW4 aren't that different in length, you should be fine with the slip in the shaft. :brows:
pingpong Posted May 25, 2008 Author Posted May 25, 2008 Basically I am going to take whatever parts I need Of Of Pongs Old motor  The 4.0 isnt staying in there :brows: So basically I need the wiring harness all the cables hooked to the auto tranny, Flex plate/flywheel.. a floor shifter and I am good? I think I have all that laying around  AS for the driveshaft... I have Pongs old one.. which if too long.. will be retubed and shortened  and if that doesnt work... I have a few spare ford, jeep, and IH shafts laying around
Geonovast Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 With having a SYE, you HAVE to have a slip joint in the driveshaft.... that's kinda the point. If you throw a shaft on there that doesn't have one, you won't be very happy....
pingpong Posted May 27, 2008 Author Posted May 27, 2008 I have several slip joint shafts laying around..... as a matter of fact Pong's old one has 8" of slip travel.. with 6" for down travel :D
