is needed to fill her up with? i have about a quarter inch on the stick, so i need to put some in and i want to make sure i get enough so i don't have to make a second run.

From the add mark to the top of the hashed part (full) is exactly 1 qt. If you only have a quarter inch on the stick I'd say 2 quarts. But if it's that low between oil changes, I'd buy a third so you have it for when it's low again. You must be leaking or burning it quite badly to lose that much.

this has been the first time i checked it since i got it, which isn't a good idea, and i haven't put any in it neither. once i get some more in there, i will check on it about every two days for awhile to see if there are any problems. i know it's not leaking, there aren't any oil spots on the ground where i park it, i have been underneath and it looks pretty good and clean.

Guys, before you give out one-size-fits all advice -- all I see is that he owns an '89 with a 5-speed. It might be a 4.0L, which does hold 6 quarts with an oil change -- but it might be a 2.5L, which would be a quart over full with 6 quarts, and that causes the seals to blow out.

Remember -- we're dealing with Jeeps. There are no absolutes.
