Sounds like you have short somewhere, Probably insulation rubbed off a wire somewhere against the body. I would check the wiring from the firewall clear to the light sockets on the front.

Yeah the fuse connectors aren't the best in the world + the fact when or if the clutch master ever springs a leak it ends up in the box melting fuses...

That might explain why 3 fuses on the top of mine were melted (looked like an overload though), I now have tail, stop, park lights but nothing in the cluster (not even the idiot lights) except for turn indicators and high beam, and yes the clutch master is fairly new. How difficult would it be to replace the fuse panel and would it be worth the trouble?

well, if you are a decent with diagrams and wire cutters and crimpers and a heat gun then its not so bad just takes a while. but if your not then bring it to a very trustworthy garage

Well, the taxpayers and our government spent about 20 grand back in '79-80 to teach me how to fix radio and communication systems, I might be able to handle it jamminz.gif but not just this minute. I was thinking about an aftermarket gauge set to replace the idiot lights and perhaps (FX you gave me this idea) moving the fuse panel to the glove box away from the clutch master (but that is way down the road). Gas hand even reads funny, when empty (runs out of gas) it reads about half full, put 2 gallons in and it reads full  Oh well, so much repaired so far and some still to do 8)
