Eagle Posted August 13 Posted August 13 The driver's door window in my 2000 XJ Sport has become intermittent, and it's getting worse. Sometimes I can get it to work by jiggling the switch, but I'm afraid of getting it open and then not being able to close it. If anyone has a parts XJ -- I guess 1997 or newer, certainly 1999 or newer -- I'm looking for the interior switch for the driver's door window. If the switches come as a unit with all four, I'll take that. If they are individual switches -- the switch for the driver's door has a detent for express-down. I'll be perfectly happy to get one of the other switches, without the express down detent. Thanks.
JZLAJeep Posted Thursday at 02:43 PM Posted Thursday at 02:43 PM I just recently did this on our '97 XJ. A YouTube video recommended Switch Doctor brand replacement part and it's worked well so far. They are surprisingly inexpensive. To be honest, I don't know how much of the issue was the switch or the broken ground in the door hinge, but I went ahead and replaced the switch (and fixed the ground and the check strap). I was able to buy the drivers door switch separately in June, but on Amazon and the Switch Doctor website, I'm currently only seeing the 4 pack for all of the doors. https://shorturl.at/kJRDB Pretty cheap to buy all 4 though. And there are other brands that sell just the drivers door switch. One warning though, the Mrs. discovered last weekend that Simple Green cleaner takes the paint off of the switch... When researching this repair, I did find several people said it's the window lock button that goes out first on these switches and a few people bypassed the window lock and continued to use the same switch. This wasn't a viable option for me, so I replaced the switch, but it might be something to look into for you.
Eagle Posted Friday at 12:21 AM Author Posted Friday at 12:21 AM I'll keep that in mind as a last resort, but I hate to buy nine switches when I only need one. Thanks. I never would have thought of Amazon for Jeep parts.
The86manche Posted Saturday at 05:09 PM Posted Saturday at 05:09 PM I found a 98 limited in the junkyard. The switches come as a unit. Technically you could desolder and re solder the switches if you wanted. This one has an auto switch for the driver window though
Eagle Posted yesterday at 04:08 AM Author Posted yesterday at 04:08 AM I bought the one from Amazon, and it has arrived. It doesn't appear that the switches are replaceable in the driver's door housing, so my idea of replacing just the one switch that's bad wouldn't have worked. I really hate automotive engineers. Nothing is repairable these days. "Technicians" in shops don't fix anything -- they've just become parts changers, and it's not entirely their fault.

They are just made to look that way, they are replaceable. But only with soldering tools unfortunately. Not made to be easily serviced.
JZLAJeep Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago The switch assemblies are surprisingly cheap. As much as you hate it, just replace the assembly and be done.
