Geonovast
Yes you can do it, from what I understand it's relatively easy. I know several people on here have done it. I probably would have done it by now, but I prefer the older style.

DrThunder
its fairly easy, i didn't do the fenders just cause, the wiring needs to be altered and the mounting is completly different but do-able with a drill and some hardware.
92comanche4x4
what kinda hardware i would love to do this before i do the bodywork so i can paint it all at once
offroader461
to make it look perfect...you need: Header panel, grill, bezels, all the turn and marker lenses, and both front fenders you can bolt everything together like it was meant to be there...swapping fenders is easy the swap requires no wiring what so ever unless you want to run the 2 turn signal bulbs, i just modifyed the marker light holder and it fit perfect when i was doing mine..decided to go back to the older look (Looks better IMO) You can do the swap w/o swapping fender as others have said but the fenders and header are shaped differently
Pete M
If you swap the front fenders, then your front flares won't match the rear flares. It's not a simple task to swap on rears since MJ rear flares are bigger than XJ rear flares. Although one of our members was patching together a couple sets of 97+ XJ flares to create his own MJ rear flares. Personally, I'd keep the stock front fenders and do my best to blend them into the 97+ header assembly.
Car RamRod
I agree with pete. I'm gonna do this when I paint my truck in a week or so. I'm not gonna change out the fenders though, it's not really worth it for my truck.
