a1awind Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I'm replacing my rear shocks is there anything special i need to do ? or do i just unbolt and pull them off?
a1awind Posted January 10, 2008 Author Posted January 10, 2008 so i shouldnt have to compress the rear springs then?
92comanche4x4 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 no just unbolt them and bolt the new ones on i did it on mine quick and easy
a1awind Posted January 10, 2008 Author Posted January 10, 2008 yeah well, due to rust mine probably won't be so easy. I'm gonna have to go up and soak the nuts in pb blaster the day before. thanks a lot you brightened my day with that news!
mfpdm Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Until I did my lift on the Jeep, I always thought that when you unbolted the shock, it would shoot out of there like a bullet killing everyone. And that you would have to be really strong to get them compressed. Man was I a :dunce:
mjeff87 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Yeah, they come off easily. The only problem you might encounter would be the lower shock bushings being "stuck" on the mounts, especially if they're stockers. You can pry them from behind or beat them off with a blunt weapon of your choice, but you can also hook them both together with a ratchet strap and pull them both off the lowers at the same time by tightening the strap. Once you get the lowers off, you can twist/spin each of them while pulling to get them off the upper mounts. Use plenty of PB on the mount bolts/studs beforehand if they've never been off before.
