72cut
Hey everyone, I have an 88 with 4.0 just put new radiator, fuel pump and thermo yesterday. Tru k has sat Maybe 6 months. Truck will crank strong but not start. Hit it with some starter fluid,it would fire up and die after second or two then just crank and crank. Headlights come on. Dash lights too. Truck had flat tire and was leaning to side, though maybe gas wasn't getting to pick up. Pumped up tire, nothing. Truck also has new fuel filter. Any ideas? eaglescout526
88 might have the fuel pump resistor on the drivers side by the air box. Bypass that and see if it changes anything. It’s a white bar with two of the same color wires plugged in.
72cut
Forgive my ignorance but not as me hanically inclined as I'd like ot. Bypass it?
eaglescout526
Yes. Bypass it. All it does from the factory is “quiet” the pump down for XJ owners as they claimed to hear the pump inside the Jeep. MJs don’t need it and it causes problems like what you’re having right now. If you plug the two wires together, you should have your fuel delivery again.
cruiser54
Put a jumper wire across it.
