V8 ZJ coils, how much lift?

Recommended Posts

I nabbed a set of ZJ coils out of the yard this morning. Anyone know an estimate of how much lift they'll give on my (used to be 2WD) 87, 2.5L? I'm guessing maybe 1-1/1/2" :?: If so, I can use them and add a spacer for the 3" I'm looking for in the front. I compared them with a cheap caliper I have, and they're @ 1mm thicker than the ones I have on now. Anyone know the uncompressed length of 2WD XJ/MJ springs?

TIA,

Jeff

stock springs are a piece of cake to pull if you have a small bottle jack....took me about 20 minutes 8) and only cost me $6 ea, that's why I grabbed them. Plus, my springs are the original ones that came with the MJ and they're going on 19 years old. These came off a 98 ZJ....I couldn't just leave them there, now could I?????

Which ZJ coils? There's 3~ different types. I think that the I6 versions will actually drop you an inch, if anything. The V8 versions are supposed to be 1" lift. I think they also have an 'up-country' option for ZJs, which would give you 2". I don't remember for sure. Did you take the stock coil isolators as well? You can stack them with the ones you've got and get a bit more lift.

XJ 'up-country' coils are only an inch. I think.

They were V8 coils. I didn't check the option package....I just saw the 8 in it and grabbed them. It had ABS and a D35 in the rear, if that matters. I didn't take the isolators, tho. Maybe I'll run back down there and grab them tomorrow.

I think that the difference will be more than an inch, since you have 2WD coils in the front, and those are shorter than the 4WD coils. So figure if they give an inch to a 4WD XJ, and you have 2wd coils that sit roughly an inch lower than that. So 2" plus whatever your old coils have sagged to.

That's what I'm hoping. I guess I won't know until I bolt them in, for sure. If I can get 2.5" or so in the front with them plus a spacer and go 3" in the rear I'll be set.
