shdbriding
I am going to look at manche number 2 hopefully this weekend. I'm familiar with the usual rust areas to check but this will be my first experience with a 4.0L. It's a 90 with a five speed. did they all come with the peugeot(sp?)? The beast is a couple hours away from me so I want to make a good list of things to check to take with me. Those of you that have been on here for a while please bear with me. CWLONGSHOT
The BA10 was pretty much done by 1988, so that shouldn't be a worry unless someone swapped in one. You will know right away because the BA10 is a two piece case. You know, like a clam shell with the seam right down the middle. Running front to back. The AX tranny that it should have will not have any seams running front to back. GOOD luck, CW

I thought they switched midyear in 89? My 89 was built in June 1989 (per the sticker on the Driver door) and has the AX15...

JeepcoMJ
sorry for the hijack, but what is involved with swapping a ba10 to an ax15?thanks post things like that in a new thread if ya could ;) Thats good to know about the trans. Is there any problems that are 4.0 specific that I need to look out for? 4.0 problems include leaky rear main, bad valve cover gasket, leaky o-ring at the oil filter adapter, bad 02 sensors, exhaust manifold cracks, and sometimes overheating from a bad seal on the closed cooling system (bad "reservoir") as well as bad thermostats. but that's about it. they're hard to kill.
