It doesn't matter if it's from a 2.5 or 4.0 There's a plastic pot behind the gauge that can be adjusted with a phillips screwdriver. I installed a 1990 cluster (like this) in my 86 and it works great. However I did need to install a different speedometer cable for it to work.
