Htchevyii
Here's my home made EGR block off plate that I had to make in a hurry when my EGR valve failed right before a trip. It's sandwiched between the EGR valve and the manifold, so once it rusts a bit, it should blend in pretty well. I made a gasket from FelPro high temp gasket material since I didn't have one and neither did the local parts stores. It's kind of difficult to work with because of the thick metal layer inside, I used a die grinder to cut it. I'm sure something could probably be matched up at a good parts store. If anyone has a good EGR valve they would like to sell, please PM me.
boxyjeep
Have any issues passing smog with this setup? I'd be concerned about the smog tech failing it after seeing it...
cruiser54
Chances are it would pass as long as it wasn't detected in the visual. You could "age" the plate before installation somehow.

Htchevyii
Probably. Mine will probably blend in pretty good by the time it gets smogged, (currently only upon change of ownership in my area and I don't plan on selling). I've seen smog techs hook a vacuum pump to the EGR valve to make sure that it functions, (vehicle should stumble or die when opened at idle). I think they are supposed to check it unless you're in an "enhanced" area that requires dyno testing for pre OBD 2. Not really sure if the tech would bother or not? "Now as for the Enhanced Smog Test, the smog test machine reads NOx emissions through the tailpipe which eliminates the need for the smog check technician to inspect the EGR system physically. During the Enhanced Smog Test the smog machine determines whether or not the EGR system is functioning properly based on the NOx emissions content."
