Ax15 3rd gear issues

Recommended Posts

So I was driving home from work today and it popped out of third gear. So I had some time to test the conditions for it to do that and found out it was only when accelerating and shifting into 3rd gear that it would pop out. Downshifting from 4th or just costing in 3rd gear is not a problem. Also, when shifting into 3rd and 4th gear it will grind sometimes. Any suggestions? I also have two spare ax15 transmissions if it comes to it.

i do not have an answer for this but a question, would you consider parting with one of those ax15s?

Yep, where are you located? Also, are you converting to a 4wd? Otherwise I believe the trans will not work for you unless it's for another truck not in your signature

I am in puyallup area. I would also like to convert to 4wd. I was just talking to my uncle about doing a conversion and he said it isnt hard i just need the axle and a 4×4 transmission.

I am in federal way. I also have a transfer case if you want it. Will have to check what type it is. I can't meet you until after the weekend.

I got the trans out and was ready to put the new one in until I noticed the ends of the primary shafts looked different. Sure enough the old one is about 4mm smaller than the new one. What can I do about this? What are my options?

There are two sizes of the AX-15 input shafts. Since you have an '89 did it come factory with it or was it a swap?
