  1. Dang, okay thank you. Yeah I have a dana 35 I forgot to mention that. Sucks that 3.07s cost way more than some other ratios.
  2. My truck came with 3.07 gears in the rear axle, can I buy a new ring and pinion that is 3.55s and install without issues or do I need a new carrier?
  3. Thanks for the heads up,. Wait the raidiator core is welded in? The "core", is that the main support holding the radiator in place? It's not the radiator itself welded in right?
  4. I just read that thread, answered many questions and i see the firewall diffences without the engines in the way. Thanks for sharing.
  5. Could I use a later model hood and front end?
  6. I know the firewall is said to be different in 1986 compared to 87+ because the 4.0 wasn't an option/made yet(although yes amc had other inline 6 engine, but the 4.0 itself wasnt manufactured/put into the jeeps until 87. I have had my 89 side by side with an 86 and the firewalls looked IDENTICAL. I didn't measure it or anything but i was curious if anyone has ever done the swap. I believe somewhere on here I read that it can be done with some persuasive hammer massaging to the firewall but I have searched the internet and comanche club and can't seem to find any info on whether or not anyone has successfully done the swap.
  7. Thank you. Been wondering this for quite some time. Need to put a new ring and pinion in mine. I know the spider gears and axle shafts are different because I purchased the wrong spider gears once. I'm guessing the drum brakes are different too? But everything else is the same for sure?
  8. Are the ring and pinion gears the same for non c clip and c clip axles? And are the interchangeable?
  9. Still looking for black b pillars?
  10. Did you ever get the ECU?
  11. okay yeah that would be great.
  12. I am in puyallup area. I would also like to convert to 4wd. I was just talking to my uncle about doing a conversion and he said it isnt hard i just need the axle and a 4×4 transmission.
  13. i do not have an answer for this but a question, would you consider parting with one of those ax15s?
  14. you're in luck(with the shift linkage because yes it is from a manual MJ) there is a few manual Cherokees there as well. I know one is after Chrystler switched from the threaded clutch master cylinder to the(I believe plastic) O ring press fit style hydraulic line. I think there are four manuals ONE MJ THREE XJ and then there is four automatics 1 MJ 3 XJ hey that's not bad (not sure how far along the rot of your sheet metal is) but 900 is a steel.. haha. I think they are one of those (get it while you can) things.. odd I think I have read that exact sentance on this website before. hows the humidity out there in Virginia/Georgia? is it bad? like, get out of the shower and never dry off bad? I never even knew what a comanche was until 2014. Randomly saw one drive by and ever since I have wanted to get one. Finally got one and I didn't use any logic at all when I got it. I seen it, seen that it ran, talked the guy down to 1500. (now with what I know I probably could have gotten it for less) but I was starstruck haha the previous owner kept trying to warn me I probably shouldn't daily drive it because it needs work and all I did was nod my head and say whatever it is I will fix it.(having no experience working on vehicles other than basic oil change, brake pads, spark plugs, upper control arms all on an acura.) then I got this truck 5speed manual which I have never owned a manual. (can never go back to an automatic now) yeah I too just wish I knew then what I barely know now. I love this truck but damn I had no idea what I was getting into haha. really thankful I found this website though. first thing I read was the "Tips every MJ owner should know" thread and immediately I started over thinking and the found (the man, the myth, the legend) Cruiser54's mostly renix tips and one thing led to another and now I'm addicted to working on my truck... If I'm not working on the Job, I'm working on my truck..... my bad I got carried away.. hows it in spokane? I have wanted to go drive out that way but just been so limited by my Jeep(how often do you hear that haha) its only 287 miles from where I live. I drive more miles than that on an average worknite( I do deliveries) but I have also had to have my truck towed three times so I would like to get all of the surprises taken care of so then I am not a huge distance from home with a truck that needs to be towed that I can't afford. although it is better now that I replaced the dash harness and fuseblock as a result of a power to ground short circuit that melted everything from the fuse block to the tail lights. but now I am going to need to rebuild my transmission soon. Have you heard of/been to palouse falls? thats out that way. that is where I want to go. sorry i really got carried away digitally rambling.
  15. I was considering grabbing the driveline on the 87lwb, pretty sure the 87 is RWD. another question, if the 87 had ____ transmission and mine was an ax15 would I be able to pull the slip yoke from my excisting driveshaft(forgive me if my literature is not on par) and then with a new U Joint attach it to the 87lwb drive shaft to make it compatible with the spline count on the RWD extension housing on an ax15?
  16. right on thank you all for your suggestions. if there is anything that anyone is looking for and I see it I can grab it and maybe I can get some stuff sent out. I will update this thread with more pictures in two weeks. If I remember correctly, I am pretty sure the 89 DOES have the 4wd shift linkage still there.
  17. maybe its time to make the trip eh? yeah for sure. I have seen a few MJs up here in fact every MJ i have seen in my entire life has been up here. my buddy had one sitting in his yard for years and I always asked him about it and he said it was his uncles and he didnt want to get rid of it. then it sat for a few more years, next thing i knew they moved off the property and guess what happened??? he sold the MJ! I found that out after I managed to my hands on one and then asked him about getting parts from that one. I know someone in Utah that has an MJ that someone parked on their property for three years and now they just want it gone, 200 bucks!!! title and everything. I'm trying to get my cousin to pick it up for me but he is slacking!
  18. these are the only pictures i have at the moment of the 89 swb. so this is the one that has the big dent. i think the 87 lwb is dent free just dirty.
  19. anyone located in washington state at all?
  20. difficult but possible. I bought a 23.5 gallon gas tank for the sending unit and then when swapping mine out i broke the little tab on the unit so I pulled the sending unit apart and just feed the wire through the little hole on it and wrapped it around twice and squeezed it back in and my gas gauge works but i think I put the fuel pump housing in at a slight angle and missed the gromet hole so the float gets stuck at a quarter tank. i will fix soon but for now it does the trick. i still have the tank too but its pretty rusty. i will definitely check out the gas tanks and sending units when i go there next.
  21. the 89 swb is red and is not bad for sitting there for who knows how long. i think if i remember right the rear bumper was the rustiest piece on the 89. the 87 lwb is black and is good looking too except the bed looks like a tree fell on it or it slemmed into a tree while it was getting wheeled, other than that its not badjust covered in powdered green mildew. i can't remember if its the 89 or the 87 that has the big dent in the bed but both are failry rust free or atleast to a minimum surface rust.
  22. okay so I rescheduled to go out there in two weeks 2/5 so I can atleast clear out my truck bed and then make a parts list and go out there with a purpose.
  23. So I found someone that has 5 or 6 cherokees and two Comanches one is 89 short bed 4x4 and other is 87 longbed 4x2. the 89 has no engjne, transmission, rear axle, seats, dashboard(owner broke it helping me pull the dash for the harness+fuse box). the 87 I haven't really looked at too much but plan to more today. It is 89 miles from where I stay so i would like to be more productive when i go there this time.(would be third time) the original reason I went there was to get the dash wiring harness+fuse box because i accidentally plugged those two extra power and ground wires by the license plate and melted a huge portion of my fuse box wires and dash wires. Parts that I have taken so far the first trip I spent $50 and got from the 89 comanche fuse box/dash wiring harness(yay no more electrical shorts) full gauge cluster(I have one but i got this one only cause its closer to the mileage of my truck due to the speedometer cable being broken for 40000~ miles of driving)-for free the second trip spent $30 and grabbed from a cherokee, 3spoke steering wheel. windshield wiper multifunction switch. from the 89 comanche clutch pedal cross member(forgot to grab the transfer case skid plate or whatever it is but plan to grab it today) turn signal switch the little plate that screws into the tunnel at the base of the shifter(I accidentally threw mine away not knowing what it was when I first got the truck) clock cigar lighter socket that has a light I have gotten everything for a good deal in my opinion. my question is what parts should I look out for? I was thinking of getting. ECU from the 89 comanche(incase something catastrophic happens to mine) ×2 pairs of tailights from both trucks interior plastic trim stuff was thinking of getting the rest of the maroon dashboard to match the 3 spoke steering wheel I pulled from the cherokee. what would you grab? all of these vehicles are going to the dump so I been trying to grab as much as I can but not sure what I should get. (Obviously grabbing things that are missing on my truck but was wondering about comanche specific things to look out for? Sorry if these are dumb questions. I also apologize for this post being scattered and probably isn't clear. I guess I'm just looking for some ideas of what some of you would grab if you had the opportunity. i will take some pictures of the trucks when I get there later; if the guy doesn't mind; to give an idea of what I am grabbing from. also should I grab the VIN's for the registry list? haha (I don't know what I'm doing just excited to be pulling parts from these vehicles) Again I apologize for this post. I am really greatful to have found this website with all of this information available. thank you.
