I’m an idiot and coolant is hot

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I’m an idiot. I upgraded my dash to have gauges and have been replacing sending units. I was unaware that the temperature sensor was connected to the coolant system and the engine was… freshly turned off.

I cannot find how to get new coolant in this thing?

I’m open to guidance. Thanks.

There’s 2 places depending on if your radiator is the stock or aftermarket one, the stock renix position is here, typically ontop of a coolant bottle bracket B245825E-2A5F-41D6-8294-5D61A1A38D38.jpeg.0bcb95628cdff5d96905741d24daa6c6.jpeg

the Other place either on an upgraded system, High output, or 2.5l I believe located here as a normal radiator cap.

This time make sure that the coolant is cold, don’t want a geyser of coolant

Thanks. I have been a TJ guy for several years and used to pouring it down a radiator.

if you so desire, you can swap a radiator with a cap into the older trucks without changing anything else. :L:

you will still need to bleed the system.  best way is actually through that same sensor hole after pointing the truck downhill (so the back of the block is the highest point).  just be sure to do it when the engine is cold this time. :(

I managed to pull my hand away in time to not get any serious burns.

anyways, system is flushed and I now have a sensor that sends to a gauge.
