Classy Comanche
Had new plugs, wires and distributor cap installed today. The truck is so much more responsive. But it idles higher and higher cranks. Is that normal? Does a engine take time to get used to new parts as such? Also here's two videos of the truck starting and the truck idling then being shut-off. Does it every start when I drive it 20220902_185159.mp4 20220902_185342.mp4
BizarroStormy
That sounds normal to me (at least mine does that ). I'm pretty sure the idle air control solenoid opens up when starting to make it easier to start, then quickly cranks down to establish idle. Does your truck have a tach, what is it idling at in park after it warms up?
Classy Comanche
Well I actually found the fix for it. So it ended up being literally two small disconnected vacuum hoses. And the high crank and rpm is gone 100% and no sadly I have no heat gauge or tach. I have a gas gauge, speedometer and the rest are like lights
ghetdjc320
The startup RPM is normally coolant temp dependent. It’s normal to have an idle up at startup for a few seconds. The vacuum leak would definitely idle it up though across the board.
Classy Comanche
Yeah if you guys go to "88 Pioneer high rev when cranking" you'll see better videos of what I was experiencing.
