gdobble7
Hey so Ive run into an issue with my 87 with a dana 44 in the rear. I went to go replace my axle shaft for the rear driver side. I purchased PN 83504961 30Spline 29.25" long. I am having an issue were it will not go in all the way. There is no debris in the way. The axle shaft seal sticks out slightly and will not seat all the way. Looking from inside the differential it seems like the shaft is 1/4" an inch from being all the way seated in the spider gears. Did I buy the wrong one or am I doing something wrong?
ghetdjc320
Is the bearing retainer fully seated?
DirtyComanche
Does the shaft have any machining defects on the splines? It might be what is stopping it. Or they may not have splined it far enough down the shaft.

Tex06
I've got mine out right now.... would any measurements help?
Tex06
The shorter side is the driver's side. I just spent 15 minutes with a rubber mallet "remembering" that. This is the passenger side measured from the back of the wheel stud. Looks like right over 29-¼". The driver's side would be slightly shorter (about ½" based on eyeball measurements). My guess is you got the wrong one.
gdobble7
So I have the right axle shaft for the driver side. The axle shaft seated all the way into the spider gears before I pressed the bearing on. The bearing, retainer, and axle seal I installed came with the axle shaft from jeggs. When I installed the bearing race the axle shaft would not seat all the way. Is there something I am missing with installing the axle shaft that would prevent it from seating all the way ? No the axle shaft went far enough into the spider gears before I pressed on the bearing, retainer, and axle seal.
DirtyComanche
How did you press the new bearing on?
