I have vv diesel swapped my 1987 jeep comanche. I chose to keep the AW-4 renix era. I am not struggling with how to build the harness. I have interior swapped the comanche too so all electronics are running off a 1998 Cherokee ecu. I have the TCM and ECU for the renix era auto. I connected the kickdown cable and the TPS sensor to my vw pedal. Can I run the TPS straight to the TCM along with 12V and ignition, or do I need to run it through the ECU for the correct voltage? Do I only need the TPS and the kickdown cable as an input to run the trans?

The tps voltage input is 5v. You can get a nice little 12v to 5v step down transformer online. You should be able to nix the renix ecu and just use the tcu stand alone. A super nice albeit expensive option is a compushift tcu. Gives you full control over all shift points which may be very helpful in adjusting those shift points for a Diesel engine

I was looking at getting one of the 12 v to 5 v step down. The TCM pin 1 is supposed to be a 5 v supply but I can't get any power out of it? Ill try to find what is missing but if not found ill get the stepdown!

Yeah the step downs are only a few bucks on Amazon for a fully potted waterproof version. Actually just ordered a couple more for my stand alone project

I tested my 12 to 5 volt converter and it didn't show signal changing between the solenoids. Any Idea what I might be missing? One thing I can't find is the pinout for the grey aw4 connector. There are 4 dead end wires I don't know what to do with.  but this is how I ran my wires. Might be missing a ground. For renix era, are all fully black wires grounds? there are unlabeled wires from the tcm that are black which I may attach to ground.
