thousender
I will be doing a 4wd swap on my 87 2.5l shortbed and want to know what I can salvage from a cherokee. Also, Id to make sure I can take parts off an auto comanche and/or 4.0 comanche. Thanks for any responses
Eagle
To avoid possible issues with the transfer case input shaft not mating with the transmission, you should buy a transmission and transfer case together. You have a 2.5L, so you can't use a transmission from a 4.0L vehicle of any year, because the 4.0L has a different, larger bell housing bolt pattern. So you need a transmission and transfer case from a 2.5L Cherokee or Comanche, and you need the transfer case shifter and linage, plus the bezel for the center console. Pete M
You need to know what gearing you have now. Rules of thumb: 2.5+4spd=3.55 2.5+5spd=4.10 2.5+Aw4=4.

thousender
Does anybody know about the driveshafts and speedometer cable?
mjeff87
Speedo cable, yes. Rear driveshaft, no. Front driveshaft, depends......different driveline combos (specifically transmissions) have different lengths.

The DIY master list (link in my signature) has a link with all the various stock shaft lengths. I recommend getting new one made. The aren't all that much.
