jaekl Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I'm planning a swap a 5 speed from a 4.0 liter to a 2.5 liter with a 4 speed. I know the bell housings will need to be swapped as well, which I believe is possible. The next issue is the input shaft compatibility. Before I pull the trans, can someone confirm that this will work?

Pete M Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Sorry, but that can't be done. If you had an AX-15, you could use a Dakota bellhousing to mount it up to the 2.5L (at one point in time the Daks used both the AX-15 and 2.5L together), but the 4.0L trans in 88 was the Peugeot and no such adapter bellhousing exists. The 4.0L and 2.5L have different bolt patterns for their bellhousings. Jeep on! --Pete
