machined hole in the side of my 242??

Pulled out the 242 yesterday to clean it up for install in the MJ, and came across this machined hole in the side of it, right in front of the range selector. It's not threaded, but it looks like it's there for a reason. Anyone know what it's for, or what might plug into it? The 231 doesn't have it.
