Fixing fuel lines

Recommended Posts

Hey all. Just got home from a lengthy deployment, turns out my fuel lines of my 87 4.0 2WD has dry rotted as well as the fittings on the pump and the injectors.

I was basically forced to put the truck into a government lot to store the truck while I was gone and exactly what I thought was gonna happen happened. Anyways, I have extremely limited access to the truck so just a quick fix to get it running again is what I’m looking for so I can get it back to the barracks at the very least.

I’m posting here hoping to figure out what the right size hose is, where to find the fittings so I can just quickly replace that trash in the lot. Is the fuel line repair kit on rock auto going to give me everything I need?

I’m not an experienced mechanic by any means, my knowledge is limited to basic understanding of how an engine works and a bit of YouTube.

Any tips or suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks in advance!

Are the fuel lines themselves rotted or just the disconnects?  The repair kit will fix the latter, but if you have a problem with the rubber lines themselves, you'll have to get a little inventive.  Also, if it's just the disconnects and the plastic retainer is still in good shape, you can save money by buying just the o-ring seals instead of the whole kit:
