 Guess what i found, a Dana 44 with the metric ton springs and the height sensing brake valve. I diddent get a year off the truck and diddent notice what it had till i came back to the yard to get more parts off of it. but here is the question, whats a good price to pay for it and is it worth getting when my truck is mostly stock and only dose light wheeling but let me know what yall think.

Consider that if the yard knows what they have, the rear axle alone is worth $500 to $600. If you can score the entire truck for $500 or less, you've gotten a deal. Especially if they can give you a title to go with it (other than a salvage title, that is). But IMHO it's worth $300 to $500 even w/o a title.

How can you tell if you have metric ton springs?

They have an extra leaf. I *THINK* the standard MJ springs are 3 leaves plus an overload, and the metric ton springs are 4 leaves plus overload.

Pete, is that correct? Or is it 4+1 for the standard and 5+1 for the metric ton?

It's only truely of use to you if the gearing of the 44 matches that of your front axle. Otherwise you have to regear and it makes using an MJ 44 pointless.

Check the gearing!

Not necessarily "pointless", but you'd need to re-evaluate the purchase if you aren't prepared to spend the money on regearing. It all depends.

That's more what I meant. Thank you for the better wording.
