dash lights question

Dash gauge lights (speedo, fuel, etc) work.

Stock radio has audio, but the display doesn't light up

HVAC controls don't light up

Cigarette lighter outlet has no power.

Would these 3 issues be related?

The cigarette outlet isn’t on the same circuit. All the dimmable illumination is on the same one. Probably just a few bad bulbs. The hvac uses a “74” bulb. @Minuit will definitely know what the radio uses and can probably provide more info on those circuits.

The radio has two illumination wires.

- LCD illumination, which is at full brightness when the ignition is on and headlights are off, but dimmed when the headlights are on.

- Panel/button lights, which are on the same circuit as the rest of the dash and gauge illumination.

If the radio is original to your '89 and has brown text on the buttons, its happiest home will be in the recycling center. The bulbs fail VERY regularly in the 89 and 90 factory radios. The panel bulbs probably melted off the circuit board in about 1995 and the LCD bulbs probably aren't doing too hot either. OEM radios from 88 and '91 (especially '88) are far superior in every way and look almost identical.
