Compression test results

Recommended Posts

I inherited an incomplete build with my new Comanche and jumped the starter to perform a compression test to assess the health of the motor before investing additional time and money. Please help me to evaluate the test results below and thanks in advance.

Compression test results

-  Cylinders 1 & 2 gradually pumped up to 90/95 after ~20 strokes

-  Cylinders 3 - 5 jumped right up to 145/150

-  Returned to Cylinders 1 & 2 when they jumped right up to 120/125

What else you need to know

-  Motor donated from 1994 ZJ with a reported 130k miles

-  Motor has not ran in at least several months

-  Intake and exhaust manifolds are removed and the respective ports were open to atmosphere during the test

-  Engine oil is toward the low end of the safe operating range and there is no evidence of coolant in the crankcase
