1987Comanche
This is my first post here although I've been surfing this site a lot since I got my '87MJ in April. She's an '87 2WD, AMC 150, 5 speed, Dana 35 with 177K (had 172K when I got her). The body was pretty decent but she needed driver's floors, an oil pan, some wiring, and a handful of other parts (alternator, etc) but she runs pretty well. I recently moved from NY to NC and have yet to find a U Pull it junkyard around here. Meg always needs something and I had a great yard in Auburn, NY that actually produced another tan Comanche shortly after I got Meg. If anyone knows of any good junkyards between Asheville and Spartanburg, SC please let me know. Thanks
JOMJ87
I know of a few. I will have to get my list and i can post the ones i can think of. I'm originally from brevard and have alot of extra parts. What are you looking for?? I may have it and ill be up that way Sat. Let me know and ill post some that i know of later. But off the top of my head theres 2 in columbia SC that i could try to grab some parts for you from. Plus Greenville SC Has one IIRC that was good. And i had heard of a Jeep junkyard near G-ville also. Let me check some stuff out for you. Cole

mjeff87
How close (or far) are you guys from Richmond? I know for a fact that Raleigh/Durham is exactly 2 hours from here. There are two U-pull 'yards here, both owned by the same company. If any of you guys want to come up some weekend, I'd be glad to be a tour guide for ya. 1987Comanche
Right now I don't need too much except the top cover for the air cleaner assembly and the front of the exhaust system (pipe from manifold to the cat). I welded the current system back together when it broke at the flange but it probably needs to be replaced. I'm really just trying to figure out what's out there that I can pick from. I also like walking around looking for stuff that I didn't know I needed until I found it (e.g. the Eldorado seats I put in my old Isuzu pickup). Raleigh is about 4 hrs from here. I'm not sure about Richmond but I'd guess perhaps 6 hrs.
JOMJ87
Didnt get to grab those places info from work today but i will tomm. As far as Richmond goes Columbia is about 2 hours from Spartanburg so thats not to much further from G-ville for you. The 1987 MJ i have the top of the air box if you want it. I had to eliminate min completely. How close are you to Mountain Home exit off 26 or maybe the airport?? I could meet you on the way to brevard with the air cleaner box top FOR FREE. I will get locations for you guys ASAP. Cole

JOMJ87
No i havent went to get any but i know they have alot of XJs and atleast 2 MJs from searching on Carpart. I also called them to verify. One is located west columbia and the other is in Lexington. here's Addys and the columbia on a map I couldnt find exact addy. 2308 Two Notch Rd. http://tinyurl.com/2rutcd Lexington, SC 29072 Cole
jtdesigns
I found a CMC u pull it in Beech Island SC... so there is another one in Columbia?
JOMJ87
The URL link shows the CMC in columbia and the other is in Lexington like the addy says. Those are the only 2 i know of because its the closest u-pull to me that i have found. CMC is really a huge scrap company so make sure the one at beech Island is a U-pull junk yard and not a scrap metal yard which could also be handy. :brows: They have a mian website for the CMC company also if you Yahoo it. casey
There's a pick and pull Full Size Jeep junkyard in Burnsville, NC. 1 hr N.E. of Asheville. The owners wife (Jackie) has started collecting XJ's and MJ's as well. She has several of both to pick from. As well as every FSJ part you can think of. I got my MJ project from Jackie. ;) Jake's FSJ Junkyard 828-675-0579 The p&p yards around Greenville are EXPENSIVE! You're better off getting the junk from one of the boards or listings at CL or the bay. I called about a BBC engine...any 454. All of them wanted $1500 at least and several wanted a core. What do you need. There are several 4x4 shops around here that keep parts for sale. 1987Comanche
Thanks for all the info. I'll give Jake's a call and perhaps head up there in the next few weeks. I'll also look at the links JOMJ87 sent and see what they had to offer. JOMJ87: did you drive up past Asheville this past weekend? This is the first chance I've had to get online in a few days as the compressor in my Suburban locked up (pulley bearing). Since it's the familymobile I had to get it up and running first. I could really have used the air cleaner box though...oh well.
JOMJ87
Yeah i drove up to Asheville. don't care to ship it to you for whatever shipping costs. I might be able to send it with family but we will have to see. Cole
1987Comanche
That's fine. The plastic tube running to the PCV system has been broken since I bought her so it won't kill me to wait. If you do end up making another trip up here let me know.
