Suhdu98
Hoping this is the right place to post this. I am having issues with the instrument panel in my "86 MJ. No blown fuses that I can tell, and all bulbs are new. The only thing that will illuminate is the right turn signal, which burns steady when the headlights are on, and the high beam indicator. I'm pretty new to this and hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks!

JimB
Not to sound dumb. Have you tried turning the headlight switch knob clockwise? This is how you adjust the brightness for the cluster lights. As for the solid turn signal light. Check and make sure the front and rear bulbs, on right side of truck are good. A bad bulb will cause the indicator light to stay illuminated. thecodemonk
Welcome! A trip through cruisers tips should solve most of that and probably some other gremlins you haven't even found yet. :)Sent from my Pixel 4 using Tapatalk
Suhdu98
Thanks y’all. It’s not due to the dimmer/headlight switch. I’ve pulled off most of the face pieces of the dash including the gage cluster and there are many factory looking connectors that are unplugged and don’t seem to have a place to go...this will take some serious wire tracing I think
jdog
The loose connectors are option equipment and most will not have a matching end to it.
Eagle
There are only two connectors for the instrument cluster, both over on the left side (left as the cluster is installed in the dash). Both are rectangular and snap directly into the cluster. You make reference to "the dimmer/headlight switch," but those are two different things. Let's try again -- the headlight switch pulls out to turn on the headlights. It also rotates to control the brightness of the instrument lights, and at one end of the rotation it's OFF. In addition, the control is an old-fashioned rheostat, with a fixed contact blade that slides along a length of coiled resistance wire. Over the years, this may develop dead spots, causing the lights to flicker or go out even if the knob isn't rotated to the OFF position. So ... have you tried rotating the dimmer control on the headlight switch?
