Taking apart Speedo Cable ?

I have had 2 or 3 of these now. Let's just say exhaust is hot. All of them have not been smooth at the speedometer. I have found living the cable helps allot. I would do it when you install it. IMHO

I have got it apart now 

and it does work on the 86 but you just got to mod the back of the gauge to get the new cable to clip on, my old one appears to be the original one and the wire is all cracked up and peeling off

That doesn't look like the right cable for an '86. You need the one that attaches to the speedo head with a metal clip and a screw.

Your right eagle it’s not all metal like the original one but I have no clue where to even buy an original one so I just got this one and it works just fine, plus it’s a little longer than the old one so you have more wire to work with behind the cluster
