automatic transmission fluid

Is there a specific type of ATF that I should use in the tranny?

Mine is kinda low so its not a full change just topping off.

auto tranny? aw4. don't use synthetic, it has been known to cause wear on the brass discs in the clutches assembly, ruining the trans.

 

deron III is what I use in all my trannies and t-cases.

For just adding some, or topping off, just off the shelf DexronII/ Mercon ATF will be compatible.

I inquired at the local Jeep dealership about this matter. They said that the AW4 should have Dexron III

Dexon/Mercon III as per the manual.

 

 

The tcases don't care though, incase anybody wonders.
