WahooSteeler
My passenger window would get hung up after going down only a few inches, and while the motor sounds weak I also thought it might be the spiral metal whip auger thingy getting hung up because I had experienced that on the driver side. Pulled the panel and it is a combination of those things and the switch terminals need a good cleaning. While I have a new regulator sitting in a box, there is some life left in this one and I'm not sure if I want to go through the hassle of drilling out rivets etc to replace it yet. So my real questions are this....... first, is the auger whip supposed to extend towards the front of the door or the rear? There is more room for it extending towards the rear, but the guide tube it comes out of is angled slightly towards the front of the door. Second, on both my doors there was a rigid rubber hose laying in the bottom of the door and if I am correct, this is supposed to cover the auger to guide it and keep it from getting hung up on brackets and such inside the door cavity. I sprayed a substantial amount of lithium grease in the hose but it seems barely big enough for the auger to fit in so the auger just pushes the hose and ends up getting bound up. I thought about buying some oversize hose to at least keep it from getting hung up on brackets, but standard rubber hose will just kink up. Haven't checked Lowes etc for a rigid hose yet but looking for some guidance and suggestions.
ftpiercecracker1
I can't say for sure on the first question, but so long as there is room for the whip to travel it shouldn't matter. Yes, the rigid hose is a guide as you deduced. My suggestion would be to operate the window with the door panel removed and see what is obstructing its path and address it as needed. Yeah, that's what I've been doing a good bit today. As the whip goes down, without the guide cover on it either snags on a bracket right below it or hits the bottom of the door and gets kinked. I pulled out the new aftermarket replacement regulator to compare and the guide cover has clips on it where it attaches to the door somewhere to keep that in place as the whip slides through it. I may try to come up with something but I may just go ahead and replace the regulator/motor now since the door is already apart.
SVPete
Is the guide hose plugged? I'm asking since my passenger side was plugged (I have manual in my truck).
