Mac
I recently bought a 1988 Comanche and the engine oil light keep coming on. The engine has knocking also when I start it and it is cold. I plan on replacing the oil pump in a few months but can't do it just now. Would it be good to put a bottle of the Lucas engine additive in the truck's engine? The bottle says it will stop knocking and increase oil pressure. Does anyone have experience using this Lucas oil additive? Appreciate any advice. Thanks, Mac
Dzimm
It'll hide knocking, not fix it. Your best bet would be figure out which part of the engine is knocking and go from there.
cruiser54
Your problem could be as simple as a cheaP AND CRAPPY OIL FILTER. uSE WIX OR nAPA gOLD.
benjy_26
Yep. Do an oil change with a good filter and decent oil. That may be all it takes. I think I read somewhere that my '87's 2.5L is spec'd to use 20-50, but I've been using 5-40 synthetic and I hear zero knocks. I DID hear some valve train noise when I tried going down to 5-30synthetic, fwiw.
