Fuel Pumps

Recommended Posts

When I used to frequent the XJ forums, the general consensus at the time was that the only real reliable fuel pump for the XJ was the Chrysler OEM one.  All the others (Airtex, Bosch, Carter, etc.) had a nasty habit of dyeing an early death.   That consensus was also 4+ years ago.

What does anyone have to say about fuel pumps for MJ's?   Are any non-OEM ones worth their salt?

The Mopar OEM pump is a Bosch.

I’m sure I deserve a slap for questioning Don, but I thought OE was Delphi.

However this would not be the first time that the internet was wrong and Don was totally accurate.

Don is correct.  I pulled an OE Bosch pump from my 91 in the fall.  The Bosch replacement pump is excellent, while the others are marginal at best.

Here is the thread I had in tech concerning my replacement:

Yes, I did the same on my 91; it was an obsolete Bosch pump years ago, about an inch longer than the Bosch replacement (as seen in kryptonic's link) and fit the sender perfectly w/o spacers. It was obvious to me the HO sender was designed around this pump, or vice-versa.

Just for grins I looked up the Delphi Automotive company history. The company was formed by General Motors originally in 1994 as Automotive Components Group (ACG), then renamed Delphi Automotive Systems in 1995. So Delphi is a fairly new outfit..
