Mounting Truck Boxes

Recommended Posts

I have a heavy plastic tool box/tote I want to mount in my truck, but don't know how to do it without drilling holes in the bed. The box is like a Tuff Stuff type box without wheels.

Any ideas on how to install as a temp./removable box?

Heavy-duty double stick tape. Between that and the weight of some tools and "stuff" in the box, it won't go anywhere.

Another option would be to attach pieces of stiff metal strapping to the sides of the tool box, so the vertical leg extends up inside the turned-down lip of the truck bed. Essentially, you would be clamping the truck bed lip between the tool box and the strap.

Hmmm ... I'm thinking of a cross-bed tool box. Upon re-reading, that may not be what you're asking about. Sorry.

They do have bed assist bars. That lock in place also some come with a key lock. Put the tote where you want it, and use the bar to hold it in place either near cab or where ever you need it.

Cheap ones like this https://www.harborfreight.com/ratcheting-cargo-bar-96811.html

or ones like this that can secure it even if small https://www.amazon.com/Heininger-4015-HitchMate-Stabilizer-Compact/dp/B000FOL08M

Two pieces of 3/4 metal conduit.

Use a vise or BFH and flatten each end.

Drill 3/8 hole at each end.

Attach one end to tie-down eyelet, use a fender washer or plate on the other side of eyelet.

Attach other end to box, drill hole through the box.

Conduit will be cut to length, length will depend on where you want it to land on the box.

Both sides.

This will keep the box from sliding, keep it from a quick-grab thief.

Will do no damage to your bed.

Or-

I have a very nice newish DeeZee box, black, diamond plate, with keys, that is a perfect fit for the MJ.

I was going to put it on CL for $200, I paid $435 not long before I parked the MJ, I will not mount it again.

It's yours for $100...........you are not that far away.
