Now that my ZJ is not in use i finally took time to drop the starter and fix it, it cranks and starts up with no problem... most of the time, once ina while the starter makes a grinding noise and slips, but woks again after releasing the key, also if i crank it for more than 4-5 secs the rpms drop to almost zero, again, it fixes afte releasing the key, i dissassembled the starter to replace the bendix gear but i can`t get it out.. weird they usually come off easily, should i pull harder or the 4.0 has some trick to it?

in my signature there's a link to the DIY list and in that is a link to a digital copy of the 88 factory shop manual.  maybe that will have the complete breakdown?
