Seat Belt Removal from Retractor

Recommended Posts

So having no luck finding black seat belts. I decided I'm just going to dye mine with acid dye. Is it possible to remove them from the shoulder retractors and not break the system?

I don't know, I never tried. Why don't you attempt it at the junkyard first on a cherokee belt they are the same accept for the lower bracket mount. I saved one years ago to try myself but have no clue if I still have it. Why do it to yours and destroy it when you can practice in the yard disassembling a cherokee one and then try the dye or paint on it first. Who knows maybe a set will come up by then. Meanwhile you still have yours in the truck until you have practiced.

I wasn't going to attempted it until I heard from someone with more experience than me. Living in a small town so no junk yards within 2 hours or so. I have an extra set to test it on once I get some feedback but yeah definitely not going to ruin them without some guidance lol

Pull it all the way out, put a clamp on the belt so it cannot retract, dye the belt.

And no, I don't believe they were ever meant to be taken apart.

New replacements are pretty cheap. They have black.

Where did you find replacements? I know most are for XJ's and they can be modified to fit just trying to avoid it.

Is acid dye safe for a seat belt anyways?

Yup. Watched about 2 hours of videos yesterday about it. Stress tests, impact tests and weight testing showed almost no decrease in tensile strength.
