87MJTIM
A few weeks ago I scored an 87 XJ Laredo; fully loaded. While pulling parts today, I realized the front seats are sliders/rockers. I know I have to switch floor brackets, but can I swap my existing MJ seats on to the rocker and bolt this to the floor brackets. So, from top-to-bottom would be MJ seat/XJ rocker/MJ bracket. I want to keep the MJ tilt forward seat. I have done a search on CC but cannot fine the exact answer.
schardein
I've got a set of rockers in my XJ, and an extra set on hand. It's been a while since I looked at this, but best I can recall, because the rocker mechanism is taller, the mounting brackets themselves (for an XJ at least) are correspondingly shorter. Therefore, when you switch over to MJ brackets, the only way to end up at factory height would be to "section" out some of the height of the brackets. All I really remember is it wasn't doable. HOrnbrod
^^ This. I got a set of XJ rockers with the XJ Laredo seats I pulled years ago. After trying to mount them I came to the same conclusion. They sat too tall for me (I'm a shade over 6") and my head was into the headliner. They would are okay I guess if you're not over ~5'7" tall, or even ~5'9" if you don't have a headliner. I got rid of them...
87MJTIM
I'm about 5'10". I have a headliner, also. So, did the swap require much modifying? (I may try it. Find I don't like it. Swap back to MJ.) I don't want to change my current MJ seat then find out I can't go back.
HOrnbrod
That was about 13 years ago Tim. Rather than drill out the rivets and physically in the rocker mechanisms, I did a "tape measure" install. Mocked it up, compared with the standard brackets, and it would have raised the existing seat at least 2". I was only an inch away from the headliner as it was, so I passed. ParadiseMJ
Unless you're 5'5" you won't like them. I'm about 5-11 and 185, I felt like I was stuffed in to the drivers seat. Even with the seat reclined I had to skooch down to look out the windshield, and the rear view mirror was about 6-8" from my face. Not acceptable for me. Not recommended for a full grown person. No kidding. Now on the kidding side...I looked like Lurch driving a kiddie car.
87MJTIM
Thx for everyone's input. I thought this looked "cool." But, like many things, the novelty would wear off over time. (I would find a setting I liked and leave it there.) The seats, however, are in nice condition. The interior is dark maroon/plaid. (Anyone want rockers?)
