jeeppapa
I wouldn't get all twisted up over this. There is no source noted in this story. So what is the source for this information? The source could a guy sitting in an office at brietbart thinking up stories that will stir the emotions of the American people to generate controversy. What better way to do that then to suggest that most iconic American brand of auto world wide is going to be sold to China. That stirs the patriotic emotions. And why in gods name would Fiat Chrysler sale off its greatest asset. An asset whose sale were up globally 17% and cease to take in that revenue. That 17% increase was for last year alone. Globally the jeep brand is growing at an incredible rate. In other wards why would dairy farm sell off his best producing cow and risk losing the farm. And take a tremendous hit on his bottom line for 10s of years to come. Makes O sense. There is an important clue in this story "Fiat Chrysler said on Monday that it had not been approached by Great Wall in connection with the Jeep brand or any other matter relating to its business.” So I'm from MO so you would have to show me much more indication that this had any truth to it. It makes no logical of business sense at all. Why sell the chicken that is producing a gold egg that gets larger each year. 87MJTIM
The same article was in the Washington ComPost today. (Certainly not a 'Right-wing, extremist rag'. More likely the opposite extreme.)
Gene
Why sell the chicken that is producing a gold egg that gets larger each year. Hi jeeppapa, I like your thoughtful analysis. I certainly hope that you are right. However, so often the corporate mentality just looks at this year's bottom line. Especially if the parent company is cash strapped, an immediate infusion of cash might be more desirable than long term profitability. I posted the link mostly to give Jeep fans the heads up.... jeeppapa
I checked the source of the story here's part of the story from the post "Great Wall has yet to formally declare its interest in Jeep, but a possible acquisition would be in line with chairman Wang Jianjun’s goal, announced in February, of becoming the top specialty SUV producer by 2020. Great Wall “has this intention,” said the public relations director for its Haval SUV brand, Zhao Lijia, when asked about a report by Automotive News that the Chinese automaker wants to buy Jeep. An employee of the press office for the company headquarters, who would give only his surname, Zhang, said, “Yes, we are interested in Jeep.” Sounds like they may make a bid for it. But saying it and acquiring it are two different things. There is some bad blood between Great and Fiat already. " https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-segment. Seems that Great Wall was copying on of they're cars. This is a quote from Fiat that was published in the Telegraph business section. It didn't look that promising for Great Wall. "However, FCA attempted to quash speculation, saying in a statement that it "had not been approached by Great Wall relating to Jeep or any matter relating to its business", and adding it was "fully committed" to its long-term business plan." Hope they don't sell. Very strong possibility that US government could step in and stop it. Especially if the Chinese government has a stake in Great Wall. I can't quit get a handle on the ownership question. Can't find much on owner ship. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
