Zambeezy Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 The other day I started up my '92 MJ and noticed the speedometer wasn't working and the radio clock had reset to 12:00. The radio still worked and turn signal lights in the dash worked. I pull the fuses for "Clock" and "Gauges" and they're both blown. I put in new fuses after I get home and the gauges work fine. I set the clock and turn it off. A few days later I start it up and the gauges are dead and the clock is reset to 12:00. I pull the fuses and they're both blown again. Before I start opening everything up, can someone point me to a logical starting point? Should I pull the gauges and radio and check the wiring there first? Or would it make more sense to start under the dash with that jumble of wires? It appears only these two fuses are causing me issues, so I'm assuming the fuse block itself is fine.

Zambeezy Posted June 27, 2017 Author Posted June 27, 2017 Aftermarket radio? No sir, stock. No idea what the PO did though :dunno:
HOrnbrod Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 I'd pull the radio and take it's connector off. Then replace the blown fuses and see how long they last. While you're in there, look for any "foreign" splices on the radio harness.

The "Clock" fuse is for the dash clock, not the radio clock. It really shares nothing in common with the "Gauges" fuse that I can see that would cause both of them to blow, except maybe the chime module which is plugged into the cab fuse block. I've read posts in the past that these can short out internally and blow fuses. I'd yank that out too just in case and see if it does any good. It's the blue box (can also be black) in the pic below.
